Avionics Integration Technician
Swarm Aero is redefining air power, building the largest swarming UAV and most versatile swarming aircraft network in the world. The company is moving quickly to launch the first aircraft designed specifically for swarming as well as the Command & Control software to mobilize swarms of thousands of heterogenous autonomous assets and empower human operators to achieve superhuman results.
The team has created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense deals worth billions of dollars and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft, with aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, SpaceX, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.
This isn't a maintenance role. As an Avionics Integration Technician at Swarm Aero, you'll be integrating avionics systems on developmental UAVs that don't have a manual yet. You'll work closely with engineers to turn schematics into flying hardware, troubleshoot novel problems, and help define how our aircraft come together. Broad aircraft experience matters here more than platform-specific expertise.
What You'll Do
- Install, integrate, and test avionics systems across our UAV fleet, including flight control, navigation, communication, and sensor payloads
- Fabricate, route, and terminate wire harnesses to engineering specifications and applicable standards (MIL-SPEC, AS50881, etc.)
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and IPC/engineering drawings to execute installations and modifications
- Perform functional checkouts and ground testing of integrated avionics systems prior to flight
- Troubleshoot and resolve avionics and electrical faults using standard test equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, CAN bus analyzers)
- Support flight line operations, including pre/post-flight system checks and rapid turnaround maintenance
- Collaborate directly with avionics and flight control engineers to work through integration challenges and feed lessons learned back into design
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and configuration documentation
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on avionics installation, integration, or maintenance experience across multiple aircraft platforms
- Proficiency in wire harness fabrication, connector termination (D-sub, circular MIL, coax), and harness routing
- Strong working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, schematics, and avionics system interdependencies
- Comfortable operating in a high-tempo environment across hangar, flight line, and lab settings
- Experience with UAV or UAS platforms is a plus, not a prerequisite -- we value broad aircraft exposure and sharp fundamentals
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with custom avionics integration on experimental or developmental aircraft
- Experience with data bus protocols (CAN, RS-422, ARINC 429)
- Background in rapid prototyping, R&D, or early-stage aircraft programs
- Exposure to ground-up avionics architecture versus line maintenance or upgrade work
Compensation: $30.00/hr. - $45.00/hr. + equity
What we Offer:
- Meaningful equity stake in a high-growth defense technology company
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401k
- PTO and Paid Sick Time
- Monthly Wellness Stipend
- Daily catered lunch to office
- Paid parental leave
- Direct impact opportunity - be a key leader in building a critical technology for national security
- World-class team - work alongside exceptional engineers and operators solving hard problem
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and trustworthy work environment, Swarm Aero conducts a thorough screening of prospective employees. Candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background verification process as a prerequisite for employment.
