The Color Script Artist plays a key role in establishing the visual rhythm and emotional tone of the film. You will design color scripts that reflect complex urban settings. Your work will directly influence the look and feel of the film, guiding lighting, mood, and atmosphere across sequences while maintaining a cohesive visual flow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop color scripts that define the lighting and emotional progression across the full length of a feature film.
- Translate storyboards into cohesive visual sequences with a focus on dynamic urban environments—day/night cycles, seasonal changes, city textures.
- Collaborate with directors, art and layout teams to ensure narrative and visual alignment.
- Highlight narrative beats through light, shadow, and palette—enhancing tone, tension, and transitions.
- Build keyframes or color keys for particularly challenging or iconic moments.
- Provide visual references and mood boards for use across production departments.
- Incorporate feedback from creative leadership to refine tone and pacing of the color script.
- Work with lighting and compositing teams to maintain continuity from pre-production through final renders.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years working in animation or film production, with a focus on color or visual development.
- Strong portfolio with examples of color scripts, color keys, and urban environmental storytelling.
- Deep understanding of color theory, cinematic lighting, and mood creation.
- Proficiency in Photoshop; knowledge of color scripting techniques.
- Ability to adapt to various visual styles—from stylized animation to semi-realistic cityscapes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Nice to Haves:
- Experience on feature-length animation productions.
- Understanding of architectural and environmental design in urban contexts (lighting behavior on surfaces, reflections, time-of-day transitions).
- Passion for city-based storytelling and urban visual culture.
