Job Summary:
Swaybox Studios is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Systems Administrator to help maintain, optimize, and expand the technical infrastructure that supports our animation and VFX production. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment and enjoys working closely with IT, production, and artist teams to solve problems and keep critical systems running smoothly.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring our studio remains scalable, secure, and high-performing as we take on exciting new challenges—including our groundbreaking partnership with DC Comics to create a game-changing visual storytelling experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and troubleshoot studio infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, render farms, and user workstations.
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify areas for optimization and improvement.
- Provide day-to-day support for users across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
- Ensure network stability, uptime, and security across both local and remote workflows.
- Assist with scripting and automation of routine tasks to improve efficiency.
- Work closely with the Head of Systems Engineering to roll out upgrades, new tools, and long-term infrastructure planning.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and asset management systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation and support best practices across the team.
Required Qualifications:
- 3–5 years experience in a systems administration role within an animation, VFX, or post-production studio.
- Proficiency with Linux (CentOS/Ubuntu), Windows, and macOS operating systems.
- Solid understanding of networking, storage systems (NAS/SAN), and user permission structures.
- Experience supporting production-critical software (e.g., Maya, Nuke, Adobe Creative Suite, ShotGrid, Deadline, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with render queue systems like Deadline, Tractor, or OpenCue.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or MEL for automating tasks and workflow improvements.
- Understanding of remote access solutions and VPNs for supporting hybrid/remote teams.
- Enthusiastic about working in a creative, performance-driven production environment.
