Overview
The Construction Coordinator oversees the daily execution of sets construction, ensuring sets are built safely, efficiently, and in alignment with creative, technical, and production timelines. This role serves as the on-site leader for the set fabrication crew, coordinating labor, materials, and workflow while partnering closely with the Art Department and Production leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Leadership & Execution
- Supervise and lead carpenters and set fabrication crew during set builds, installs, modifications, and strikes.
- Translate design drawings and art department direction into practical construction plans.
- Assign daily tasks, manage workflow, and monitor progress against production schedules.
- Ensure builds meet creative specifications, structural standards, and filming requirements.
Coordination & Communication
- Act as primary liaison between Set Fabrication, Art Department, Production Design, and Production Management.
- Participate in production meetings and build planning discussions.
- Communicate material needs, labor requirements, and timeline risks proactively.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with studio safety standards and applicable regulations.
- Enforce proper tool usage, PPE requirements, and safe construction practices.
- Identify and mitigate on-set construction risks.
Resource & Logistics Management
- Coordinate procurement and use of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Provide breakdown of labor and material budgeting based on Art Director requirements.
- Track build progress and assist with scheduling labor needs.
- Support budgeting awareness by minimizing waste and maintaining efficient workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Construction Foreman, Lead Carpenter, or Construction Coordinator in film, television, theater, or live production environments.
- Strong knowledge of scenic construction techniques, materials, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and elevations.
- Demonstrated leadership and crew management experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced production environments.
- Working knowledge of on-set safety practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals while providing high-quality customer service
