How We Build

At Synctera, engineers play a hands-on role in building and evolving our core platform. With smaller teams and fewer layers, engineers have real ownership over their work, move quickly from idea to execution, and contribute directly to technical decisions that matter.

You’ll work on internal systems that must be reliable, secure, and scalable, while helping shape how the platform continues to grow and mature. It’s an environment designed for engineers who enjoy meaningful impact, autonomy, and solving complex problems in a regulated, real-world context.

Our Stack

Our platform is built in Go (for backend services) and React with Typescript (for the Synctera Console, our frontend). We’re built on top of Google Cloud Platform and typically use Postgres (Cloud SQL, AlloyDB), Redis (Cloud Memorystore), and Pub/Sub as our core application stack, with OpenAPI specifications being used to both document our API and be the foundation for inter-service communication.

Our infrastructure is predominantly a mixture of Kubernetes (Google Kubernetes Engine) and Cloud Run (Google’s serverless compute platform), with Terraform orchestrating infrastructure, and tools like Argo facilitating deployments.

What We’re Looking For

The Cards team is critical to Synctera's platform, ensuring the reliable and secure processing of card transactions and issuing spending cards. We are looking for an exceptional engineer to help build the future of our card offering.

The role is highly autonomous, requiring strong technical skills and an ownership mindset. The engineer will significantly influence product outcomes, moving beyond the ticket board to make product visions a reality. We are looking for an engineer ready to jump in and run with our fast-growing team, contributing directly to major technical decisions.

This position is a one-year contract, with a possible conversion to a full-time role based on performance and business need.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain scalable, reliable backend services in Go (Golang)
  • Find cleaner, simpler ways to solve technical problems and improve existing systems
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to understand complex financial services challenges and design solutions
  • Identify and implement process improvements and development best practices that raise the bar for quality and efficiency
  • Advocate for and mentor software engineers in development best practices, fostering skill and knowledge-sharing across the team
  • Assist in building a new foundation for our card issuing/processing subsystem

What You’ll Bring

  • 4-6+ years of professional work experience as a software engineer
  • Experience with Go or a comparable structured and opinionated language
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider, preferably Google Cloud
  • Experience in using and creating RESTful APIs, which will be consumed by our frontend engineers and our customers
  • Nice to have:
    • Experience with Python / GitLab APIs / Google Cloud APIs
    • Experience being a part of early-stage, fast-moving engineering teams
    • Familiarity with payment rails and financial systems
    • Experience with card issuing/processing
    • Experience working with ISO 8583
    • Experience integrating with third party vendor APIs
    • Fintech experience

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
