Director, Software Engineering
The Director of Engineering will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of SaaS-based software applications built using Microsoft technologies. This role will lead software engineering teams, be responsible for software delivery of a broad product portfolio, ensure operational excellence and cost-effectiveness in entire software delivery life cycle – from ideation to launch and ongoing maintenance. This position involves a blend of strategic planning, team leadership, client management, business development, and process improvement to drive the success and growth for Syndigo.
This role will be based In Poland and open for UOP ONLY
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Mentor direct reports and facilitate career development opportunities.
- Ensure teams are accountable, have clear priorities, and service ownership- own final delivery plans for respective products.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be the engineering leader for Syndigo – build, mentor, and lead highly functioning, productive, inclusive, motivated engineering teams across multiple geographies
- Staff, execute and deliver to multiple product roadmaps (timely, within budget, and with quality) to meet business goals and priorities; suggest and align on trade-offs, identify risks and mitigation plans
- Make and own critical decisions, be proactive in anticipating/resolving impediments to progress
- Establish, implement, enforce, and improve engineering SDLC, standards, best practices, compliance/security measures; ensure efficient, consistent, and sustainable software engineering practices
- Effectively run Agile process and project meetings such as roadmap planning & reviews, requirement grooming, sprint and technical planning, standups, sprint demo, sprint retro and other project meetings
- Capture, analyze and ensure optimal team velocity, throughput, and quality for work delivered
- Collaborate with Syndigo’s senior/executive leadership and peer leaders to meet organizational and departmental goals; ensure that departmental decisions are in line with business plan, vision, and budget
- Partner with Product, Architecture, Tech Ops, DevOps, IT/Infrastructure, Operations, Support, Customer Success and other cross-functional teams
- Promote team culture and employee engagement, improve cross-team collaboration and engagement with other local and global Syndigo teams
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, maintain knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in software engineering
- Able to provide overlap with US working hours – Till 12 pm US Central time; able to travel to US or India for 1-2 weeks duration as and when needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with software delivery aspects – planning, delivering, maintaining, improving SaaS-based software applications in cloud platforms
- Experience with Agile and other software development methodologies
- Experience with program management, project management, progress status reporting, presentations, proposals to senior leadership
- Experience with building and leading software development teams (co-located or remote) spread across multiple time zones globally
- Experience with hiring and ramping up new teams or expanding existing teams
- Experience with SaaS products hosted in cloud platform (Microsoft Azure, AWS –Microsoft Azure preferrable)
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
- Excellent time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
- 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams of size of at least 15-20 people
- 5+ years of additional experience in hands-on software development and maintenance using Microsoft C#, .NET Core, REST APIs, and Microservices
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Science is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience leading software engineering teams of size of at least 15-20 people
- 5+ years of additional experience in hands-on software development and maintenance using Microsoft C#, .NET Core, REST APIs, and Microservices
