Director, Financial Planning & Analysis
ABOUT SYNTHBEE
SynthBee was founded to build safe, scalable, and reliable Collaborative Intelligence™ to amplify human innovation. We apply our novel computing intelligence platform to complex, mission-critical systems across healthcare, defense, aerospace, automotive, robotics, security, climate, and more—for customers who demand reliability, transparency, and ethics above all.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the FP&A Director, you are the analytical engine of SynthBee’s finance function - turning numbers into narrative and helping leadership make sharp, well-informed decisions. Reporting to the SVP, Finance, you’ll own budgeting, forecasting, and modeling that guide how we invest, hire, and grow.
You’ll be building the planning muscle for a company creating the future of collaborative intelligence, thinking as much like an operator as an analyst - translating financial data into decisions that move the business forward.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Planning & Forecasting
- Own the budgeting and forecasting process: building and maintaining the company operating model, headcount plan, and rolling forecasts.
- Partner with department leaders to build bottoms-up budgets and hold the business accountable to them.
- Model scenarios, runway, and unit economics to inform strategic and fundraising decisions.
Analysis & Insight
- Deliver monthly budget-versus-actuals analysis, translating variances into clear, actionable insight for the SVP, Finance and the Senior Leadership Team.
- Build and maintain financial dashboards and OKRs in partnership with Mission Control Operations that track burn, revenue, and the metrics that matter most to an early-stage company.
- Turn complex financial data into simple, compelling stories that drive decisions.
Reporting & Systems
- Prepare board-ready reporting packages, investor updates, and ad hoc analyses that stand up to scrutiny.
- Own and continuously optimize our FP&A tooling and reporting stack, ensuring data integrity and a single source of truth.
- Partner with the Financial Controller to reconcile forecasts to actuals and keep planning grounded in reality.
Partnership & Performance
- Serve as a trusted finance partner across the business, bringing rigor and clarity to cross-functional decisions.
- Collaborate with People Operations on headcount and compensation planning, and with Senior Leadership on resource allocation.
- Performance in this role is measured against established OKRs co-created with the SVP, Finance and aligned with SynthBee’s Mission Control Operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 5-7+ years in FP&A, investment banking, corporate finance, or a closely related analytical field.
- Advanced financial modeling skills.
- Expert command of Excel and Google Sheets; experience with modern FP&A and BI tools (e.g., Pigment, Mosaic, Looker, or similar) is a plus.
- Experience building budgets, forecasts, and operating models - ideally in a high-growth or startup environment, venture capital or banking industry.
- Strong business acumen - you connect the numbers to the strategy and use data to tell a story and drive change.
- High attention to detail and discretion, especially when handling sensitive financial information.
- The ability to build structure in ambiguity without losing warmth or perspective.
Not sure you check every box? Apply anyway. At SynthBee, we value unique perspectives, transferable skills, and a genuine growth mindset. If this work excites you and your experience aligns with the core responsibilities, we want to hear from you.
YOU SHOULD APPLY IF
You love solving problems that don't have textbook answers. You build as naturally as you think, and you want your work to matter—for people, for the planet, for the future of intelligence. You're creative, imaginative, and deeply ethical. You believe in decency and collaboration. You are not here to follow the crowd.
