Lead Systems Engineer - Electronic Warfare

The Systems Development Division (SDD) delivers technology advantage into users’ hands, from space to sub-surface. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes.  SDD considers the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development, to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.  Current efforts include programs for airborne and space RF, undersea systems focused on both passive and active applications, and advanced testing enabled by multi-function, multi-modal capabilities.

SDD is seeking a Lead EW Systems engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of multi-function EW systems. You will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams spread across multiple STR campuses, groups, divisions, and with industry partners to understand customer objectives and develop innovative solutions to complex and challenging national security problems. Your areas of specific focus will include exploration and demonstration of EW, communications, and EW/RF convergence.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and expertise in areas such as: systems engineering, hardware design and development, and test & evaluation. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, managing system design, development, and test programs, as well as technical proficiency in relevant technologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, technical, and peer-leadership skills are also required.  Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, detail oriented and have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team through strong written and verbal communication skills.  You will be joining a dynamic team working across multiple disciplines with opportunities to further expand your knowledge and grow your career.

This position requires being on-site/in-person in the Woburn, Massachusetts office.

What you will do:

  • Applying core technical skillset, critical thinking, and analytical skills to multiple domains effectively and working across disciplines to solve problems in innovative ways
  • Researching, understanding, and leading new EW implementations.  Identifying new technical approaches and working with leadership to create/refine technology/product roadmaps
  • Architecting, designing, directing, and implementing cutting-edge technology in multi-function, deliverable/deployable systems
  • Effectively using tools to create, evaluate, and document solutions and clearly communicate the solution to the team, STR management and customers
  • Identifying clear technical problems to solve based on complex, multi-disciplinary program objectives, and effectively allocate technical problem-solving responsibilities to a multi-disciplinary team and oversee their execution
  • Ensuring appropriate level of rigor is applied to achieve systems that meet customer needs
  • Identifying new techniques or refinements to drive continuous improvement culture

Who you are:

  • This position requires an Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance and must be eligible to support special access programs, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government.
  • Understanding of EW systems and demonstrated contribution/leadership in architecture definition, design, development, requirements verification, test planning, test execution, data analysis, and operations support
  • Background and direct experience in domains such as:
    • Electronic Warfare, Radar, RF and Microwave Design, Antennas
    • Wireless Communications, Sensor Fusion, Electromagnetics
    • Stochastic Processes, Digital Signal Processing, Detection Theory, Estimation Theory, Tracking Theory
  • Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art solutions and incorporate them to current problem sets
  • Experience in preparing and delivering high-level briefings to Customers and senior management.  Interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end solution
  • Capable of effectively working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated desire to successfully pursue new challenges, improve and broaden technical skills, seek greater responsibilities, and increase individual value to the organization
  • Familiarity with the execution of technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS)
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and delivery of advanced development projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline and at least 7 years of applicable experience. Equivalent experience may be considered

Nice to have:

  • Experience mentoring and providing career development direction to junior engineers
  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of applicable experience; or PhD with 2+ years of applicable experience
