Senior Configuration Management Specialist

Woburn, MA

STR is focused on delivering National Defense capabilities by driving mission-focused strategies to develop advanced technology systems enabling products and solutions focused on achieving the customer vision. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes. We consider the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.

STR is hiring a Senior Configuration Management (CM)/Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist to support the development, implementation, and administration of procedures and associated infrastructure, and directly support programs to ensure CM and QA is applied to deliver high-quality products.  You’ll drive excellence and innovation across a dynamic portfolio—from prototyping through full-rate production—supporting programs with national and global significance

In this role, you will work with stakeholders (e.g. organizational leadership, program teams) to identify and develop procedures that support the range of work STR does, spanning multiple technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and software.  This requires establishing scalable and tailorable approaches that are appropriately applicable to programs spanning bench-top prototypes to fielded systems deployed in rugged environments.  These processes should be rooted in industry best practices but defined for STRs range of program types.

You will apply your expertise to directly support programs by administering CM and QA procedures as an “independent” expert but through an informed approach by being aware of program drivers.  This includes, but is not limited to, participating in or owning Engineering change processes, supporting Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Failure Review Boards (FRBs), and conducting inspections and audits as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and software work products and artifacts.

To be successful, you should have experience in CM and QA applied in the Defense industry within a portfolio that spans prototype through production. You should have experience operating within the Arena PLM, SolidWorks PDM, and Git tools.  You need to be detail-oriented with at least 5 years of directly applicable experience supporting efforts as outlined above.

What you will do:

  • Work with stakeholders to develop and implement CM and QA related procedures and identify associated metrics to support continuous improvement.  Context for these efforts will be span domains including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, and software.
  • Administer and optimize PLM/PDM environments (including Arena and SolidWorks PDM) to increase program efficiency and data integrity.
  • Manage and process changes to technical documentation, parts lists, drawings, and software in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Track change requests, deviations, and waivers through review and approval cycles.
  • Coordinate the processing, review, and documentation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Requests for Deviation (RFD), and Requests for Waiver (RFW).
  • Support Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Failure Review Boards (FRBs).
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and assessments of configuration items (CIs), ensuring compliance with contractual, governmental, and industry regulations (emphasizing MIL-HDBK-61 and other defense-specific standards).
  • Own Arena, SolidWorks, and Git execution as appropriate for this role.

Who you are:

  • Minimum 5 years of directly applicable experience in CM and QA and supporting government programs related to software and hardware
  • Expert-level experience with Arena PLM and SolidWorks PDM; experience with additional PLM/PDM tools is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of CM and QA standards, particularly MIL-HDBK-61, related DoD guidelines, and industry standards related to software and hardware, e.g., IPC
  • Background should include a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of applicable experience. Equivalent experience will be considered

Nice to have:

  • Active Secret or Top-Secret security clearance

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
