About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to join our growing healthcare services organization. This strategic role will lead the FP&A function, providing financial insight, planning, and analysis to drive informed decision-making within a rapidly growing organization. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management, with a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities within the healthcare industry.
As the Director of FP&A, you will partner closely across all departments to align financial planning with business objectives. You will oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and month-end-close processes among many others. You will own key company financial models and reporting. This is a high-visibility role with the opportunity to make a significant impact on the financial health and strategic direction of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Planning: Lead the annual budgeting and long-term financial planning processes to ensure financial stability and growth. Develop multi-year financial forecasts, including revenue, expenses, capital expenditures, and cash flow projections.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare comprehensive financial reporting and present insights to senior management, highlighting potential risks, opportunities and actionable recommendations.
- Business Partnering: Serve as a trusted advisor to operational and executive teams, providing data-driven recommendations to optimize business performance. Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment on financial goals and performance metrics.
- Cost Management: Monitor and assess cost structures across departments and service lines, providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Financial Modeling & Forecasting: Develop and maintain financial models to support decision-making, including forecasting, scenario planning, build vs. buy and sensitivity analysis. Ensure accuracy and reliability of forecasts in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Support the leadership team in making informed, data-driven decisions.
- Financial Systems & Data Analytics: Utilize advanced financial systems and tools (e.g., Sage Intacct, Tableau) to gather insights, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and report on financial and operational performance. Ensure that financial data is accurate, accessible, and actionable for the leadership team.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of FP&A professionals, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring high standards of financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting. Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to financial policies, regulations, and industry standards, including those specific to healthcare finance. Coordinate with the accounting team to ensure proper accounting for healthcare revenue streams, reimbursements, and regulatory compliance.
- Healthcare Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on healthcare industry trends, regulations, and CMMI/CMS programs that may impact the organization's financial performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (required).
- MBA or advanced degree in Finance or Healthcare Administration (preferred).
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive financial planning and analysis experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in the provider-side healthcare services industry (e.g., hospitals, outpatient services, long-term care) is required.
- Experience in value-based care is required.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare financial metrics, reimbursement systems, and cost management strategies.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Experience in acquisition and integration of healthcare organizations, including financial due diligence, post-merger integration, and financial performance tracking.
- Experience leading a team and partnering with senior leadership.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable business insights.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and financial analysis tools (e.g., Sage Intacct, Tableau).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement systems, and industry regulations.
Certifications
- CPA, CFA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
