The Challenge
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Product Owner to take ownership of our collaboration platforms for product and project tracking, specifically for backlog, roadmap, and documentation management. In this role, you will be responsible for the vision, strategy, roadmap, and successful execution of these products, ensuring it meets the needs of various stakeholders, including IT Operations, Engineering, Security, and Enterprise Architecture teams.
You will work closely with these stakeholders to define requirements, manage the product backlog, and drive the continuous improvement and adoption of these products to ensure teams are able to manage their backlogs efficiently, develop roadmaps, and manage documentation. Your focus will be on maximizing the value of these products and providing enterprise-wide dashboards of initiatives.
What You’ll Take On
- Product Tracking Vision & Strategy: Develop and champion a clear product vision and strategy for backlog management and road mapping.
- Backlog Management & Prioritization: Own and manage the product backlog for the backlog management systems and related IT operations tools (e.g., integrations with Jira, reporting systems, road-mapping tools, etc). This includes creating and prioritizing user stories, epics, and features based on business value, stakeholder needs, and technical feasibility.
- Requirements Gathering & Definition: Collaborate with stakeholders across IT (including Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, Application Development) and business units to gather and document detailed requirements for product management, project management, integrations, automation, and reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary point of contact for all backlog-tool, and documentation tool matters. Facilitate regular communication and feedback sessions with users and stakeholders to ensure the product evolves to meet their changing needs.
- User Adoption & Training: Develop and support training materials and adoption strategies to ensure users understand how to effectively utilize the backlog management, road-mapping, and documentation tools.
- Integration Management: Define and oversee the integration of the tools with other key IT systems, such as change management tools, service desk platforms, discovery tools, and monitoring systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Monitor the performance and usage of the products, identify areas for improvement, and drive initiatives to enhance its functionality, usability, and value to the organization.
- Agile Practices: Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) with the engineering and operations teams responsible for the product development and maintenance.
- Reporting & Analytics: Define requirements for the product reporting and analytics to provide insights into the IT environment, support decision-making, and demonstrate the value of the products.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience as a Product Owner, or similar role, in a highly technical organization with a deep understanding of how agile, engineering, and development teams operate
- 2+ years of experience as an Engineer, Architect, or similar role, with experience across multiple domains of technology (Infrastructure, Development, Security, etc)
- Strong understanding of Agile and Product concepts discovery processes, and reconciliation.
- Experience with backlog management platforms (e.g., Jira, GitHub Projects, Monday, or other enterprise-grade tools).
- Experience with documentation management or wiki platforms (e.g., Confluence, MediaWiki, or other enterprise-grade tools).
- Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Great to Have
- Experience with executive-level communication and presentation.
- Knowledge of scripting or query languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for data analysis.
- Experience in an organization of similar size and complexity (~7,000 employees).
