The Tango labs and offices are located at 201 Brookline Avenue, in the Fenway area of Boston, Massachusetts.

 

Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated attorney to join our team as Director, Intellectual Property. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will lead Tango’s intellectual property function and manage all facets of IP through the various stages of product development. This role will implement the company’s intellectual property strategy in the oncology space, counsel internal clients, manage patent filing and prosecution, review publications, track regulatory exclusivities for each product, perform freedom to operate analysis, handle trademark prosecution, and oversee IP litigation. Further, this role will work closely with the Business Development team to support strategic transactions. This role offers a broad range of responsibilities and significant growth opportunities in an exciting and growing company. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • IP Strategy Development: Design and implement comprehensive IP strategies aligned with the company's R&D and business objectives.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the global IP portfolio, including freedom-to-operate analyses, patentability assessments, and IP risk mitigation.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: provide IP counseling to in-house clients within discovery and development functions such as chemistry, CMC, and other functional areas through all phases of drug research, development, and commercialization
  • Strategic transaction support: Assist Business Development and Research teams with intellectual property aspects of transactional, licensing, and strategic agreements, including material transfer agreements, licensing agreements, and sponsored research agreements
  • Patent applications and prosecution: Prepare patent applications (with the assistance of outside counsel); maintain prosecution docket of all U.S. and foreign patent applications, including post-grant practices as they may arise with prosecution
  • Implement trade secret best practices to protect technology not subject to patent protection
  • Actively contribute to the legal function by building a positive culture, fostering engagement, sharing best practices and participating in initiatives focused on building departmental and functional knowledge and competencies.

 

Education & Experience

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of legal experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in a biotech company’s legal department
  • In-house experience at an early-stage pharmaceutical/biotech company strongly preferred
  • Licensing and technology transactional experience (including with co-development, co-commercialization, and/or distribution agreements) preferred
  • Experience developing global IP strategy required, with the objective of supporting the development of a comprehensive commercial strategy to protect product exclusivity rights
  • Must have direct experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications and conducting or directing Freedom to Operate analyses
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Developed sense of judgment, risk management skills, and ability to balance legal matters involving multiple stakeholders and various priorities
  • Ability to concisely, succinctly, and clearly communicate complex IP concepts and strategy to stakeholders with limited exposure to IP concepts
  • Ability to interpret legal requirements and deliver pragmatic, business-oriented guidance
  • Proven capability to manage multiple priorities and collaborative effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary range

$198,400 - $297,600 USD
