Lead Visual Designer

New York, New York, United States; San Francisco, California, United States

About Taskrabbit:

Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform that conveniently connects people with Taskers to handle everyday home to-do’s, such as furniture assembly, handyman work, moving help, and much more.

At Taskrabbit, we want to transform lives one task at a time. As a company we celebrate innovation, inclusion and hard work. Our culture is collaborative, pragmatic, and fast-paced. We’re looking for talented, entrepreneurially minded and data-driven people who also have a passion for helping people do what they love. Together with IKEA, we’re creating more opportunities for people to earn a consistent, meaningful income on their own terms by building lasting relationships with clients in communities around the world.

Taskrabbit is a hybrid company with employees distributed across the US and EU and a Built In — Best Places to Work (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) continually ranked across multiple national and regional categories. Join us at Taskrabbit, where your work will be meaningful, your ideas valued, and your potential unleashed!

This role operates on a hybrid schedule requiring two days of in-office collaboration per week. The position can be based in either our San Francisco office or our new New York City office.

About the Role

We are looking for a Visual Designer to help shape and elevate Taskrabbit's visual identity across every touchpoint where Clients, Taskers, and Partners meet our brand. This role will own the art direction behind campaigns that are often the first impression of Taskrabbit, translating our brand platform into breakthrough visual storytelling across marketing, product, and partner channels.

You will set the visual standard for the brand, direct photo and video productions from concept through post, and build the systems that enable a growing creative team to produce high-quality work at scale. You will work closely with Creative, Brand, Social, PR, CRM, Growth, and regional and partner teams to ensure every asset reinforces a consistent, recognizable visual identity.

This role sits at the center of Taskrabbit's next phase of growth. As we invest in a scalable brand and cross-channel content engine, this person will define how Taskrabbit looks and feels in the world — directing the visual narrative, not just producing against it.

Responsibilities

Own Art Direction & Visual Identity

  • Set and evolve Taskrabbit's global visual identity, including brand guidelines and campaign design style guides, ensuring consistency across markets and channels
  • Own art direction for high-budget, high-visibility brand campaigns end-to-end — from concept and mood boards through shoot and final delivery
  • Lead photo and video shoots as art director: briefing production partners, directing on set, and guiding post-production to ensure output matches creative intent
  • Apply "big picture" thinking to develop powerful, conceptual campaign ideas that drive brand awareness and customer engagement

Build the Visual Design System and Manage a Cross-Channel Creative Engine

  • Translate brand strategy into a scalable visual design system including, templates, layout principles, and style guidance that other designers, contractors, and partners can execute against consistently
  • Partner with cross-functional channel leads to create and adapt visual concepts for platform-specific formats (email, social, OOH, short- and long-form video, in-store signage, landing pages, etc.) while maintaining a unified look
  • Work with product designers to ensure that marketing and product visuals are aligned and complement one another
  • Design and produce assets directly for day-to-day channel needs (email, social, landing pages, in-store signage) in addition to directing larger productions
  • Balance high-level art direction with hands-on execution — this role is expected to both design and direct, not delegate all production
  • Propose and implement new design processes that create efficiency and consistency as the brand and team scale
  • Maintain, update, and optimize Taskrabbit's asset library; audit assets across channels and plan refresh timelines

Champion the Brand through Campaign and Production Leadership

  • Lead campaign-building discussions with multiple stakeholders, from peers to senior leaders, to align on visual concept and execution
  • Generate original campaign and visual concepts rooted in cultural moments, category insights, or customer triggers
  • Direct illustration, icon, motion, and photography work, ensuring every format meets a consistently high creative bar

Scale Creative Team Output

  • Coach and onboard other team members on creative tools, systems, art direction principles, and process
  • Lead design discussions and keep the team current on design trends, new tools, and best practices, inspiring the broader team with a strong point of view on visual craft
  • Contribute to evolving AI-enabled creative workflows to increase speed and output without compromising quality

Measurement and Optimization

  • Understand how visual designs perform against engagement, retention, and conversion goals, and use that insight to sharpen creative decisions
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to set timelines, gather feedback, and move projects to completion

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a creative marketing, brand design, or art direction role
  • A portfolio demonstrating both strong design craft and art direction — including photo/video shoots led from concept through post-production, with proven campaign results
  • Proven experience directing photo and video productions: briefing production teams, directing talent and crew on set, and guiding post-production
  • Very comfortable using Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma
  • Illustration and icon design skills
  • Motion graphics or animation skills
  • Strong understanding of type, visual hierarchy, and how to build and enforce a brand style guide across a growing team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to sell a creative vision to leadership and give clear, actionable direction to collaborators
  • Experience adapting design and visual assets for a global brand, including localization considerations across markets
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent productions and campaigns
  • A track record of originating campaign concepts, not just executing briefs
  • Passion for solving visual design problems and the ability to show multiple creative directions quickly

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience directing large-scale or high-budget brand campaigns, including OOH, CTV, and partner co-branded work (e.g., IKEA, Wayfair)
  • Experience building and scaling a visual design system or template library for a fast-growing team
  • Familiarity with content performance metrics and using data to inform creative decisions
  • Exposure to AI tools for creative development, production, and workflow efficiency
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior designers or contractors
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, remote environment and managing time across multiple projects
  • Bias toward action with a willingness to move fast, learn and iterate quickly
  • Strong point of view, held loosely; pitches and sells in bold creative ideas with conviction, but adapts quickly based on stakeholder or data feedback rather than getting precious about a single direction
  • Cross-functional flexibility and is comfortable moving between high-level brand strategy conversations and hands-on production work in the same day
