ABOUT THE ROLE
This Tax Auditor role is ideal for an Enrolled Agent or CPA seeking a challenging and impactful position within a fast-paced tax resolution environment. You will analyze financial records, identify potential tax issues, conduct audits, and develop strategies to resolve disputes with federal and state tax authorities. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients and internal teams, contribute to high-stakes tax resolution cases, and develop expertise in tax law, IRS procedures, and compliance. This position is well-suited for someone who thrives on collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous learning in a dynamic, client-focused environment.

- Base Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Audit & Analysis
- Conduct thorough reviews of client tax documentation, financial records, and IRS notices.
- Analyze tax returns and supporting documentation to identify potential audit triggers.
- Prepare detailed audit reports, work papers, and findings.
- Review and evaluate client financial statements and tax positions.
- Identify opportunities for penalty abatement and tax liability reduction.
Client Representation
- Develop defense strategies for client tax positions.
- Review and respond to IRS and state tax agency correspondence.
- Present findings and recommendations to clients.
- Conduct client consultations and status meetings.
Compliance & Technical Expertise
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state tax laws and IRS procedures.
- Review tax transcripts, account records, and research complex tax issues.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, IRS audits, and collection procedures.
Case Management
- Coordinate with tax attorneys and CPAs on complex resolution cases.
- Document case activities in detail, track progression, and maintain deadlines.
- Develop resolution strategies and action plans for clients.
Collaboration & Information Gathering
- Work with internal teams to obtain missing information, tax returns, or documents necessary for case resolution.
- Keep team members informed of progress to facilitate seamless resolution processes.
Routine Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize audit work papers, tax forms, and client documentation.
- Verify calculations, ensure quality standards, and monitor compliance with internal policies.
- Proactively identify process improvement opportunities within the Tax Resolution Department.
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with clients and colleagues.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE
- Active PTIN and CAF number with the IRS.
- Enrolled Agent required; CPA license preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in tax auditing, ideally with a background in tax resolution or public accounting.
- 2+ years of experience using a tax-related CRM.
- Strong computer skills (G Suite, Microsoft Office).
- Experience with IRS audits, examinations, and taxpayer representation.
- Background in accounting, tax preparation, or tax consulting.
- Familiarity with IRS collections and appeals processes.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in penalty abatement or tax liability reduction.
- Exposure to complex client tax resolution cases.
- Prior experience working in the Tax Relief industry or at a tax resolution firm.
- Experience conducting quality reviews and audits of tax returns prepared by others.
