The Associate, DD&I is a pivotal role for an experienced due diligence professional adept at managing complex and high-volume project caseloads. This individual will swiftly grasp intricate issues, regions, and industries, leveraging a range of open-source and proprietary sources to conduct comprehensive and precise research while upholding the principle of “First, do no harm.” The ideal candidate will be recognized as a subject matter expert in at least one geographic domain, industry, or functional area, contributing thought leadership across the firm. Additionally, the Associate may oversee specific initiatives or teams, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and insight in investigative research and analysis.

Job Responsibilities

The Associate, DD&I will have the following responsibilities:

  • Managing the quality, timeliness, and profitability of an initiative or a diverse portfolio of projects assigned to the Associate or his/her team.
  • Completing or ensuring the team under management completes project-related admin, including completing the project lifecycle document, entering and approving accurate hours on Deltek, claiming and closing projects in Salesforce, uploading project-related documents and final reports to shared drives, and ensuring invoices for all investigations that the Associate project manages are client-ready.
  • Tasking and managing sources or other external consultants, as applicable.
  • Ensuring that all team members under management (including the Associate) organize and lead kick-off, findings, and wrap-up meetings during the project lifecycle.
  • Reviewing due diligences or other deliverables to ensure reports are client-ready, as required.
  • Managing the performance of the Associate’s assigned team, including setting staff goals, implementing performance improvement plans, and documenting performance issues, as applicable.
  • Developing and driving new initiatives that support the team’s performance (efficiency and/or quality) and problem-solving when new issues arise to ensure the team or initiative continues to deliver outputs on time, to quality, and profitably.
  • Mentoring and training team under management, as assigned.
  • Establishing self as a leader on the team, for example, mentoring and advising other staff on complex cases, providing training and mentorship to staff members beyond the Associate’s team, contributing to firmwide initiatives, recommending solutions to make operational improvements for the overall team, and being a recognized expert on a regional or functional issue common to our investigations.
  • Ensuring the Associate’s team flags concerns—whether related to projects or overall team management—to the Client Manager or their supervisor.
  • Taking on client management responsibility and contributing to business development (including involvement in client meetings and contributing to or writing proposals), as needed.
  • Effectively briefing internal and external clients on project developments and findings, as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with the Associate’s team and the broader DD&I organization and management.
  • Managing team relationships with Client Managers, including communicating client/Client Manager expectations to members of the team and problem-solving issues with or for the Client Managers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Associate Director, DD&I position will possess the following:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, regional studies, business or related area of study. 
  • Experience:
    • 5 years of relevant experience and at least 1- 2 years of experience managing a team. 
    • At least 3 years of experience reviewing, editing, and providing quality control for client due diligence reports. 
    • Professional fluency in English required; professional proficiency in another language is a plus, with a specific emphasis on Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic. 
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. 
    • Capable of adjusting to changing priorities and industry dynamics while maintaining professionalism. 
    • Proficiency with relevant research tools, databases, and analytical software to facilitate comprehensive due diligence investigations and deliver high-quality reports to clients. 
    • Skilled in working effectively with diverse teams and clients, demonstrating cultural awareness. 
    • Ability to exhibit a high level of work ethic and professionalism. 
    • Creative problem-solving abilities and a proven track record of driving process improvement. 
    • Exceptional reading, writing, and analytical skills; candidates will be asked to complete a diagnostic test to this effect. 
    • Adept at effectively supervising and mentoring a team of skilled analysts and associates for their professional growth. 
    • Excellent time management skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Location: Washington, DC | Monday - Friday 9am – 6pm

Compensation: $70,000 -$90,000
