Overview
TDS seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for owning and executing end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state workforce using ADP Workforce Now. This role requires someone comfortable operating independently and owning payroll processes with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on payroll processing experience and the ability to independently manage payroll compliance, reporting, and reconciliations.
Candidates must have experience processing payroll in environments with a high volume of hourly or contract employees and be comfortable handling payroll complexities across multiple states. This opportunity is based in Midtown NYC and requires full onsite presence (5 days per week).
Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly, multi-state payroll using ADP Workforce Now
- Own end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 250-400 employees per cycle
- Maintain and update employee payroll records including pay rate changes, deductions, and status updates
- Enter and process new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and process corrections as needed
- Manage employee deductions including benefits, garnishments, and tax withholdings
- Own payroll reporting, reconciliations (including quarterly GL vs ADP) and audit requests
- Own workers’ compensation audits, including preparing and explaining payroll data
- Process employee expense reimbursements and special payroll runs including bonuses and per diem payments
- Assist with year-end payroll processes including W-2 verification and reporting
- Coordinate with ADP representatives on payroll system issues, tax registrations, and compliance matters
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Work within ADP Workforce Now to support payroll processing, onboarding workflows, and system-related updates
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of payroll processing experience
- Strong experience processing multi-state payroll
- Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now
- Experience processing payroll in environments with a high volume of hourly or contract employees
- Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance, deductions, and garnishments
- Experience performing payroll reconciliations (GL vs payroll system)
- Experience owning payroll processes end-to-end
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in staffing, consulting, construction, hospitality, or similar industries
- Familiarity with onboarding workflows within ADP Workforce Now
- Experience supporting workers’ compensation audits
- Experience with E-Verify or visa-based employees (H1B, etc.)
- CPP certification is a plus
Job Type: Full Time
Pay: $85,000 - $105,000 annually
