ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Strategic Growth department’s primary purpose is to set and execute Teaching Lab’s earned revenue strategy by building a strong pipeline of state, district, and partnership opportunities that sustain and expand our impact. The team’s main functions include business development and strategic partnerships, growth operations and systems, and market strategy and outreach. The Strategic Growth department contributes to Teaching Lab’s mission by securing the partnerships and resources needed to bring high-quality professional learning and instructional support to more educators and students.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Philanthropy Manager’s primary responsibility is to drive the execution of high-quality grant writing, reporting, and philanthropic communications to support fundraising efforts across Teaching Lab and Relay. Along with the Senior Director, External Affairs and cross-functional partners across Program, Finance, Learning & Research, and Strategy & Communications, the Philanthropy Manager will also hold responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Own the development and completion of proposals, reports, and other funder-facing materials from draft through final submission.
  • Drive coordination across internal teams so inputs are gathered on time, feedback is incorporated efficiently, and deliverables keep moving without delay.
  • Maintain fundraising records and pipeline visibility so deadlines, commitments, and required follow-through remain accurate and actionable.
  • Support philanthropic and partnership-related work by preparing materials, managing next steps, and keeping priorities organized across engagements.

The Philanthropy Manager role is an individual contributor-level position with no management responsibilities. This role is essential to ensuring consistent, high-quality execution of fundraising operations and the timely delivery of materials that support revenue growth and external partnerships. Success in this position requires strong writing ability, project management skills, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Work Experience, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three (3) years of experience in development, grants management, or related field
  • At least three (3) years of experience in project management, technical writing (including grant writing), and/or relationship management
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines in complex environments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work products
  • Ability to manage up, follow through persistently, and communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders
  • Comfort working behind the scenes to make leaders and teams more effective

Values, Skills, and Competencies

  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement in organizational systems and personal professional growth
  • Ability to think strategically and translate organizational goals into effective processes and solutions
  • Compelling communication and influence skills across diverse stakeholders, including staff, partners, and external vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working experience in K-12 education, nonprofit fundraising, technical writing and/or project management
  • Experience with fundraising CRMs or tracking systems

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES AND KEY SUCCESS INDICATORS (KSIs)
All team members are accountable for achieving goals set in collaboration with their Home Manager, which are aligned with Teaching Lab’s annual goals, department goals, and Home Manager goals, as applicable.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • All team members must be able to work a flexible schedule to support operational needs.
  • All team members must be able to perform the essential project, duties, and responsibilities with or without accommodation.
  • All team members are expected to support program/project needs, which could mean that you hold multiple roles on project teams (i.e., Project Lead, Project Sponsor, Coach Developer, Client Partnership Manager, Instructional Designer, Subject Matter Expert, Coach/Facilitator, Project Management Support, or Analyst).
  • Travel could be required for the role. Travel is determined based on business needs and can vary depending on partnership/contract requirements.
  • All roles at Teaching Lab are contingent upon the availability of project work, available funding, and organizational priorities. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, including extended periods of sitting, frequent participation in virtual meetings and video calls, and consistent use of computer-based systems and communication tools.

COMPENSATION
The full salary range for this position is $80,000 - $121,007 annually. This range represents the full earning potential for the role, including opportunities for salary growth over time based on performance, tenure, and organizational budget. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $105,529. Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint of the full salary range ($105,529) to allow for continued growth in the role over time. There are two types of experience being considered for this role: Experience that is directly relevant to the role and Total Working Experience, in all fields. This includes: internships and consulting work. In collaboration with the hiring manager, the People and Culture team calculates experience based on the candidate’s most current resume. When calculating the offer, consideration is given to candidates that possess additional qualifications (i.e., desired qualifications). Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint to allow for continued growth in the role over time.
