Senior Hardware Editor/Reporter

In this role, you'll be at the forefront of compelling industries, test new devices, experiment with emerging technology, and enlighten our audience about one of the most exciting areas within the startup and technology ecosystem.

Our Senior Hardware Editor/Reporter should be well-versed in AI technology fundamentals and how they intersect with applications across consumer hardware, manufacturing, and robotics. The ideal candidate will communicate the importance and impact of these converging industries to a diverse audience across multiple platforms.

This role requires broad knowledge across various technical subjects, which will inform perspective and analysis on day-to-day reporting opportunities, event coverage, and the development of features and exclusives. Coverage is primarily written, though comfort being on camera, contributing to video projects, and moderating event programming is also expected.

This role will collaborate closely with the TechCrunch editorial team, contributing coverage while helping inform the work of others to keep our reporting at the industry forefront.

Responsibilities

● Cover day-to-day news cycles and conversations within hardware-focused communities, from breaking stories to spot news and event coverage

● Write features and analysis on the businesses and individuals driving change in consumer hardware, AI, and robotics

● Build and nurture relationships with sources to secure key interviews and profile industry leaders

● Cut through the noise to identify what's truly impactful in the tech world

● Contribute to world-class editorial programming for our event stages around hardware, robotics, and AI

● Work with other editorial leaders to align coverage priorities with overall publication goals and audience expectations

 

Qualifications

● 5+ years of experience as a business or tech reporter, with hardware space experience and proven ability to develop sources

● Comfort and affinity for working with video, including self-shooting or collaborating with team members to tell stories and demonstrate hardware for our audience

● Strong interest in technology trends, key players, and the evolving AI landscape

● Bay Area location preferred

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, TechCrunch includes a reasonable estimate of the salary or hourly rate range for this role. This accounts for the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, licensure, and certifications.

A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range is $120,000 per year to $150,000 per year.
