TechCrunch needs a talented editor to help cover the rapidly evolving world of AI. As our AI Editor, you'll help lead how we cover the tech industry's most hot-button topic, contributing to day-to-day reporting, crafting features, developing sources to find exclusives, and contributing to our expanding video efforts and events programming. If you want a highly visible role within a fast-moving space, this is the role for you.

Our AI Editor will need a strong understanding of the underlying technologies, major players, and state of the industry to succeed. The ideal candidate should be able to work autonomously as well as within a team, pursuing breaking news while helping advise other team members who need assistance from a resident AI expert.

This role requires handling day-to-day reporting and analysis, with coverage expected to be primarily written, though comfort being on camera, contributing to video projects, and participating in and moderating event programming are also expected.

Who You Are

● A versatile storyteller who thrives in both breaking news and analyzing deeper trends to bring unique perspectives to our audience through site reporting, video contributions, and events that develop and convey expertise

● A collaborative team player who can elevate your own work and that of others, and who can give and receive clear, actionable feedback

● Self-motivated, with a hunger to break news and uncover stories that matter, understanding that some news cycles emerge during off-hours and some events require longer-than-usual working hours

Responsibilities

● Cover day-to-day news cycles and conversations within the AI community, from breaking stories to spot news and event coverage

● Write features and analysis on the businesses and individuals driving change in AI, and the impact AI is having across the broader business and technology sectors

● Build and nurture relationships with sources to secure key interviews and profile industry leaders

● Cut through the noise to identify what's truly impactful in AI

● Contribute to world-class editorial programming for our event stages, whether for AI-focused sessions during Disrupt or dedicated AI events

● Work with other editorial leaders to align coverage priorities with overall publication goals and audience expectations. AI is a throughline across multiple teams, and this role is well-positioned to collaborate across many different beats

Qualifications

● 5+ years of experience as a business or tech reporter, with either a proven track record covering AI or strong expertise in the AI sector

● Comfort and affinity for working with video, including self-shooting or collaborating with team members to tell stories and deconstruct complex topics for our audience

● Demonstrated success in developing sources and uncovering scoops

● Bay Area preferred

● Material job duties and responsibilities include those listed above as well as adhering to TechCrunch Media LLC policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely, and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity
