AS400 Administrator - Contract

The Role:  

The AS/400 Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining AS/400 systems, including Apache server configuration, application upgrades, security, and hardware support. Key duties include optimizing system performance, managing disk space, network configurations, and data replication, as well as overseeing backups and OS upgrades. Experience with ServiceNow, CL programming, SQL, and troubleshooting is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Apache Administration: Manage and configure Apache servers on AS/400 systems.
  • Application Administration: Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of applications on the AS/400 platform.
  • Certificate Administration: Handle the installation and management of digital certificates.
  • General Application Upgrades: Plan and execute upgrades for various applications to ensure they are up-to-date and secure.
  • Security Administration: Manage user IDs, group profiles, and authority lists to maintain system security.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Resolve hardware issues and coordinate with IBM and other vendors for hardware support and resolution.
  • Disk Management: Monitor and manage disk space to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Global Mirror Replication Management: Administer and manage global mirror replication for data redundancy and disaster recovery.
  • MQ Series Administration: Oversee the administration of MQ Series for message queuing and integration.
  • Network Administration: Manage network configurations and troubleshoot network issues on the AS/400 platform.
  • Operating System Administration: Administer the AS/400 operating system, including user management and system configurations.
  • O/S Upgrades: Plan and implement operating system upgrades to maintain system integrity and performance.
  • Patching (PTFs): Apply program temporary fixes (PTFs) to address system vulnerabilities and bugs.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize system performance through tuning and resource management.
  • Print Spooler Administration: Manage print queues, create printer output queues, and resolve printing issues.
  • VIOS Management: Administer Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) for efficient resource allocation and management.
  • Work Management: Oversee job scheduling and workload management to ensure efficient system operations.
  • BRMS Experience: Install, maintain, and tailor Backup, Recovery, and Media Services (BRMS) and resolve related issues.
  • Problem Analysis and Resolution: Analyze and resolve complex problems in a mixed platform environment.
  • ServiceNow Experience: Utilize ServiceNow for incident management, problem management, and change management.
  • CL Programming: Develop and maintain CL programs for system automation and management.
  • SQL Familiarity: Use SQL for database queries and management tasks.
  • DBU/SQL Assistance: Provide support for DBU and SQL-related tasks and troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in AS/400 administration.
  • Strong knowledge of security administration, hardware maintenance, and disk management.
  • Experience with MQ Series, network administration, and operating system upgrades.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, CL programming, and SQL.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a complex mixed platform environment.
