ABOUT THE ROLE

Techno is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Lead to support construction activities at a large, active municipal water and wastewater treatment facility in New York City. This role provides on-site safety leadership for complex infrastructure and mechanical construction work within an operating facility environment.

The EHS Lead will act as a key field-based safety resource, partnering closely with construction management teams, contractors, and client representatives to promote a safe, compliant, and well-organized jobsite. This position is well suited for a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable working in active construction environments and supporting public infrastructure projects.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead and oversee environmental health and safety activities across active construction work areas
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce site-specific safety plans, environmental controls, and permit requirements
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved safety procedures, PPE requirements, and work practices
  • Review job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and method statements
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and support corrective action efforts
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted field training
  • Coordinate with construction management, engineering teams, and client representatives on safety performance
  • Maintain accurate safety records, logs, reports, and compliance documentation
  • Support emergency response planning and drills within an operating facility
  • Promote a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of environmental health and safety experience supporting construction projects
  • Experience working on water, wastewater, utility, or municipal infrastructure projects strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Experience supporting mechanical construction, heavy equipment operations, confined space work, and energized systems
  • OSHA 30 certification required; additional certifications (CSP, CHST, CIH) preferred
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse field teams
  • Ability to work full-time on-site within an active construction or operational facility
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $80 - $95 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process.
