ABOUT THE ROLE

Techno is seeking an experienced Estimator to support a multi-billion-dollar transportation capital program involving complex civil, structural, and rail-related infrastructure within an active operating environment. This role will develop defensible, agency-ready cost estimates aligned with public procurement standards and strict audit requirements.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Prepare detailed construction cost estimates for heavy civil, structural, track, utility, and systems work.

  • Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs from contract drawings and technical specifications.

  • Develop clear Basis of Estimate documentation outlining assumptions, production rates, risks, and exclusions.

  • Coordinate pricing with subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty vendors; analyze and level proposals.

  • Support change order pricing reviews and independent cost estimates (ICE) in compliance with public agency standards.

  • Collaborate with project controls and scheduling teams to align cost loading, phasing, and milestone sequencing.

  • Identify cost drivers and participate in value engineering discussions to optimize budget performance.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5–10+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, rail, bridge, or transportation infrastructure.

  • Strong command of Excel and structured estimate modeling.

  • Experience preparing estimates in public sector or transit environments.

  • Ability to clearly articulate cost assumptions and risk exposure to senior stakeholders.

The expected salary range for this role in the New Jersey is $90,000 - $150,000 per year. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
