Assistant Store Manager - Bass Pro Shops

Tecovas is passionate about offering an incredible customer experience for first-time boot buyers and western enthusiasts alike! The first shop-in-shop location will debut at Bass Pro Shops’ Grandaddy store in Springfield, Mo.We're looking for a Full-Time Assistant Store Manager to join our team who will bring an immersive Tecovas retail experience to Bass Pro Shops’ customers and help lead a profitable, customer-centric store. As a Tecovas ASM, you are a key part of the engine that keeps the store running — supporting the Store Manager in developing a high-performing team, owning an Area of Responsibility, and delivering an exceptional in-store experience day in and day out.  You will support product flow, uphold visual standards, and apply your leadership and merchant skills to create a store environment that is unmistakably Tecovas. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

 

- Cultivates genuine customer connections and acts as a brand ambassador

- Maintains active floor presence, managing multiple customer interactions simultaneously

- Delivers high-quality product services (branding, debossing, boot stretching, brim shaping, boot shines)

- Leads professional and gracious resolutions for customer returns, exchanges, or warranty inquiries.

- Leverages OMNI Channel tools and processes to better serve the customer



LEADERSHIP & TEAM MANAGEMENT

 

- Sets the tone and energy for the day, building team morale and a people-first culture

- Supports the Store Manager in recruiting, hiring, and retaining top talent

- Owns an assigned Area of Responsibility (AOR) and drives accountability within it

- Fosters strong communication and teamwork across operational, visual, and customer priorities

- Provides real-time feedback, coaching, and training; escalates issues as needed



TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

 

- Delivers in-person onboarding training alongside e-learning for all new hires

- Ensures timely completion of training paths and compliance with established policies

- Work closely with store leadership and HQ partners to facilitate and organize ongoing training in store locations, including training for new products and services

- Attend regular training meetings to ensure understanding of necessary information

 

VISUAL MERCHANDISING

 

- Executes visual directives on time and submits store photos with HQ feedback

- Partners with store leadership to uphold VM standards and complete replenishment

- Supports store presentation through sell-through and markdown cycles

- Oversees floor and window standards — lighting, cleanliness, displays, and props



BUSINESS OPERATIONS

 

- Executes store opening and closing procedures

- Monitors daily communications across email, Slack, and Zipline

- Sets up daily tools (hitching posts, zone charts) and coordinates team break coverage

- Manages Amazon and supply orders; maintains an organized backroom

- Updates the sales whiteboard weekly and speaks confidently to store performance

- Ensures compliance with shipments, transfers, restock, and Loss Prevention standards

- Demonstrates flexibility across all functional areas — visual, operations, and beyond



Qualifications:

 

- 3+ years retail management experience

- People-first mentality with a positive attitude and ability to build team morale

- Ability to handle difficult situations with grace and professionalism

- Strong merchant skills and a history of delivering financial results

- Proven record of hiring, developing, and retaining talent

- Comfortable speaking to store performance metrics and driving business conversations

- Experienced in coaching, counseling, and conflict resolution

- Flexible, cross-functional, proactive, and results-driven

- Utmost character, honesty, and transparency



Requirements:

 

- High School Diploma required (College Degree preferred)

- Must be at least 18 years of age

- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; lift up to 30 lbs; bend, squat, and kneel as needed

- Must be available 40 hours per week including weekends, evenings, and holidays

- Must be able to reliably commute to the work location

The hourly rate for this position is $25/hr. The actual compensation will be based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
