The TEGNA Design Tank, located in Denver, Colorado, is in search of an Emerging Technologies Designer to be part of its internal creative services department and graphics hub, servicing over 60 local broadcast news stations and streaming platforms, as well as corporate, marketing and sales departments.

This is a motion graphic designer position that primarily focuses on leveraging the powers of Artificial Intelligence within design, animation, editing and various facets of storytelling and video production.  This person will also create data-driven design standards across the organization, overseeing complex technical design challenges including designing virtual environments for augmented reality news stories, data visualization templates that provide efficiencies at scale in a variety of platforms and researching and developing new cutting-edge visual storytelling methods.

This position requires a thirst for innovation, emerging design and storytelling trends and will need to stay up to date on the constantly evolving design technologies, advancements and potential workflow efficiencies.  This role requires someone that is curious about new technologies and enjoys solving puzzles and problems.  They will work closely with the entire leadership team at the TEGNA Design Tank, as well as the staff of designers.

  • KUSA/KTVD – Denver, CO

 

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities will be around creating new workflows for graphic designers to leverage Artificial Intelligence. This will involve developing processes that integrate AI tools into the design workflow, training designers on these new systems, and continuously evaluating the effectiveness of these workflows.
  • The specific AI tools that will be utilized in the workflows include design automation software, generative design tools, and AI-driven prototyping platforms. These tools can assist in speeding up the design process, generating innovative design alternatives, and improving collaboration among team members.
  • Deliver best-in-class animation and design deliverables for a variety of clients
  • Drive advancement in data visualization by leveraging current assets as well as researching new technologies to push the boundaries of visual storytelling
  • Develop standards for data-driven storytelling and technical design
  • Train and mentor staff on best practices and application of new storytelling methods
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of production assets across the organization to more effectively leverage them

Requirements: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience producing graphics and video using AI such as: Runway, Midjourney, Stability, DALL-E / ChaptGPT, Firefly, Meta AI, Perplexity and Claude
  • 3-5 years motion graphics design experience with software such as: Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, Blender, Unreal Engine, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as: JavaScript, Python, HTML5 and CSS is preferred
  • An understanding of broadcast video standards and studio production systems such as camera, lighting and VR/AR technologies
  • Ability to solve complex technical design challenges often under constrained timetables
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong design-sense and technical ability

Pay Range

$29.50 - $32 USD
