WTLV WJXX-TV Jacksonville a TEGNA ABC/NBC affiliate in Jacksonville is looking for a proactive, collaborative, and driven Assignment Editor to help us continue delivering impactful journalism that informs and empowers our community.

You’ll monitor multiple information sources, assign and coordinate coverage, and be a key bridge between our newsroom and the community we serve.
Responsibilities:
- Be the eyes and ears of the newsroom: Monitor news wires, scanners, social media, and community tips to identify breaking news and emerging stories.
- Lead daily coverage coordination: Work closely with reporters, photographers, and producers to effectively plan and execute news coverage.
- Maintain and grow relationships with key sources: Build strong ties with public information officers, community leaders, and newsmakers.
- Manage field logistics: Schedule crews, coordinate live shots, and ensure the right tools and resources are in place for seamless execution.
- Serve as the central communication hub: Ensure clarity and consistency between newsroom teams across all platforms — broadcast, digital, and streaming.
- Track down and confirm information quickly and accurately to support our storytelling on air, online, and across all First Coast News social platforms.
- Write and edit copy for both broadcast and digital platforms using Associated Press style.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a newsroom environment, ideally in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of news gathering, newsroom workflows, and editorial priorities.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with the ability to work calmly under pressure.
- Proficiency in newsroom systems, including content management and planning tools.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to write clearly and accurately under deadline pressure using AP style.
- Strong instincts for identifying credible sources and confirming information efficiently.
