Macro Analyst
Firm Description:
Tekmerion is a global macro hedge fund whose strategy combines the fundamental insights of a fundamental macro trader with the analytical rigor of a systematic investment manager. Launched in 2017, the strategy has recently announced a $1B spin-out from Brevan Howard, with strategic backing from Engineers Gate. The investment process spans all major global macro asset classes, including equities, foreign exchange, rates, and commodities, allowing the team to express macro views where risk–reward is most compelling. The team is small and exceptional. This is an opportunity that offers startup-like growth trajectory backed by the stability of major institutional infrastructure.
Role Description:
The Macro Analyst reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer, and is responsible for conducting research under his supervision into all aspects of Tekmerion’s investment process. This can include nowcasts and macroeconomic estimates, systematic investment strategies/signals, portfolio construction and risk management, and assisting in the preparation of research notes for external distribution.
Tekmerion builds systematic strategies using both market and fundamental macro data. Emphasis is placed on understanding macroeconomic regimes, policy reaction functions, and shifts in expectations around central bank and fiscal policy. Research is grounded in causal reasoning and disciplined skepticism: candidates are expected to question assumptions, validate each step of the analysis, and link signals to clear economic mechanisms and transmission channels rather than relying on narrative explanations or fragile correlations.
Research at Tekmerion is expected to span the full lifecycle of an investment idea, from macroeconomic hypothesis formation and data analysis through implementation, monitoring, and ongoing refinement. While responsibilities scale with experience, the role offers direct exposure to how research is translated into live portfolios and risk decisions.
The role involves close collaboration with other research analysts across the team, with an emphasis on open exchange of ideas, constructive challenge, and collective problem-solving across macro, systematic research, and portfolio construction.
The ideal candidate will have both a mastery of fundamental macro and experience with the tools and strategies of systematic investing.
Requirements:
- 4-7 yrs relevant experience
- Independent thinking and intellectual honesty
- Mastery of fundamental macroeconomic concepts and data
- Experience with systematic investing, especially using fundamental/low-frequency data
- Passion for markets
- Impeccable integrity
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Autonomy; the ability to work in a self-directed manner and independently solve open-ended problems
Additional Qualifications:
- Discretionary or systematic trading experience
- Expertise in portfolio construction and risk management
- Data science expertise
- Experience writing/publishing research reports on macro and markets
The base salary for this role is anticipated to be $150,000–$250,000, excluding potential bonuses, additional compensation, and benefits. Actual compensation will depend on various factors including skills, experience, and qualifications.
