Accounts Receivable and Cash Applications Specialist
About The Role…
The Accounts Receivable & Cash Collections Specialist is responsible for accurately recording, verifying, and posting customer payments while ensuring compliance with internal accounting policies. This role involves managing AR exceptions, preparing journal entries and supporting schedules for month-end close, and developing key financial reports—including weekly and monthly AR Roll Forward and Borrowing Base reports—in collaboration with Finance leadership. The specialist also supports the Collections Department as needed by reaching out to customers with delinquent accounts, managing complex collection efforts, and maintaining strong client relationships to ensure timely payments and effective account resolution. This position would need 1-3 years’ experience in the respective areas.
What You’ll Do…
Cash Applications (50%)
- Post and record daily cash receipts for all revenue streams, both domestic and international.
- Ensure accurate and timely payments to customer accounts.
- Investigate and resolve unapplied or misapplied cash transactions.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to cash application activities.
- Resolve AR exceptions, chargebacks, and payment discrepancies.
Accounts Receivable & Reporting (40%)
- Support AR-related journal entries and participate in month-end close activities.
- Deliver weekly reports, including Borrowing Base and AR Roll Forward, to the Finance Director.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve visibility into receivables performance.
- Support ongoing initiatives to strengthen internal controls and reporting accuracy.
- Identify and recommend process improvement opportunities to optimize Accounts Receivables and Collection workflows.
Collections (10%)
- Assist Team in meeting assigned collection targets.
- Communicate with clients to resolve outstanding invoices.
- Document all interactions in CRM software.
- Draft and send approved collection communications.
What We Look For…
- Proven experience in Accounts Receivable and cash collections, preferably in a mid-to-large organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, and data analysis functions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret and work with large datasets to support reporting and decision-making.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education...
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
