About the role

The Senior Revenue Accountant will play a key role in ensuring compliance and proper revenue recognition and commissions accounting in accordance with ASC 606 and any related guidance. This role will ensure that monthly close is completed accurately and timely, with monthly account reconciliations and flux analysis, and will support the annual audit. In addition to key accounting deliverables, this role will own calculations and reconciliations of commissions and will participate in reconciliations for unbilled and deferred revenue.  The Senior Revenue Accountant will also play a key role in coaching junior team members and will collaborate across the organization, specifically with the Commercial, Legal and People & Culture departments, to evaluate options, make recommendations, and ensure compliance in the accounting of sales contracts and commissions.

What you will do

  • Review complex contracts/agreements, multiple element arrangements and complex revenue transactions to ensure the appropriate accounting guidance in applied and to document accounting positions within the Company’s revenue recognition policy and in line with ASC 606.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on revenue and ASC 606; prepare Contract Combination, Modification, and Material Right assessments.
  • Process revenue recognition in NetSuite (our ERP) and ensure accounting close is completed timely and accurately, including the review of new contracts, complex account reconciliations, monthly analytics, and billing.
  • Review Sales Orders for accuracy and compliance with contract and billing terms; handle invoicing questions related to contract and deal terms; mentor and coach junior staff.
  • Work closely with Services team to review hours and project milestones to ensure accurate recognition of Services revenue.
  • Supports the Commercial and Legal teams by providing guidance and recommendations on revenue implications surrounding sales orders.
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual financial audit.
  • Understand the accounting and operational flow of incentives and sales commissions, from policy to payout to envision, design and support systems for processing, reporting and accounting of sales commission accrual and capitalization.
  • Manage and administer the monthly commission cycle process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of the calculations; manage pay statements for plan participants within Captivate IQ commissions software.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations related to commissions general ledger accounts.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to ensure accuracy of commission calculations as well as compliance with relevant TeleTracking policies and accounting pronouncements.
  •  Enhance and maintain documentation supporting revenue recognition policies, systems, and procedures including ASC 606 memo.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and make recommendations for improvements as applicable.
  • Perform multiple tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned.

What we look for

  • 7+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606, ideally in Software/SaaS.
  • Strong analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Experience with sales incentive plans and commission accounting (preferred).
  • Experience with complex contracts/agreements.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and other complex formulas.
  • Experience with NetSuite ARM highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience of consistently meeting deadlines along with ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions using a mixture of analysis, experience, and judgment coupled with a strong ability to learn on the fly (quickly learns new tasks, open to change).
  • Ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding writing skills to clearly document determined outcomes and defined processes.
  • Ability to influence others by using a consultative approach, diplomacy, and tact. Actively listens to others’ points of view while also being able to communicate position in a clear, succinct, and non-technical manner.
  • Challenges current thinking and brings others along to implement new ideas to improve business results; enjoys the challenge of the unfamiliar task.
  • Must have the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and values.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
