The Energy & Infrastructure Team at Teneo 

 The Energy & Infrastructure team works closely with the Management Consulting Division, and creates opportunities for team members to: 

  • work with leading companies, investors, and governments globally on the top issues impacting their leadership and boards, with a particular focus on seizing growth opportunities, and managing risk associated with decarbonization 
  • provide strategic advice at most senior levels of organizations, use our in-depth understanding of energy and infrastructure sector technology, economics, and policy to support strategy, stakeholder (investor, policy makers, customers) communication, manage risk, access and optimize capital 

We leverage Teneo's world-class capabilities in strategic coms, financial and risk advisory, people, plus our strategic relationships with world-class policy advisory (WestExec), clean tech (the Cleantech Group), and our senior advisors to do what other consultancies can't. 

This is not "consulting as usual" - as a member of the team, you'll work in small teams and have direct and regular contact with world-leading energy experts and very senior clients on their most urgent issues. Key Attributes 

 As a Senior Associate you’ll be an accomplished, consistent, effective member of the Management Consulting team whose focus is on providing expert support to Vice Presidents, Senior Vice Presidents and Managing Directors in the efficient delivery of cases. This role will serve leading companies in energy and infrastructure on complex issues surrounding policy, technology and innovation, growth, financial strategy, with a particular focus on sustainability and decarbonization. Typical clients you will encounter in this role include US and global utilities, IPPs, renewable/energy storage/EV infrastructure, investors, equipment manufacturers, private equity and pension fund investors. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate a strong consulting skill set, with the ability to lead complex research & analysis programs, input into the development of bespoke insights for clients and produce client-ready written output  
  • Lead discrete workstreams, including planning the work for the team whilst translating and incorporating Managing Director views and requirements, with support always available from Vice Presidents / Senior Vice Presidents as well as through coaching and mentoring channels 
  • Managing and coaching more junior team members
  • Provide strategic insight on cases, developing the “answer” from initial hypothesis through refinement and validation 
  • Diagnosing and analyzing value creation improvement opportunities - strategic, financial, operational - across all segments of energy and infrastructure businesses
  • Work independently with minimal need for support 
  • Ability to handle day-to-day liaison with client team, empathizing with client issues and escalating concerns where appropriate 
  • Ability to lead presentations of conclusions confidently and engagingly and/or present the output to the client 
  • Build on client relationships and actively coaches team members 
  • Working effectively from remote or client-site locations, some travel may be required
  • Carry out business development work and form part of the wider internal teams within Teneo Consulting 

 

Key Skills & Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any relevant degree discipline (e.g. in finance, engineering, economics, or a similar quantitative field)
  • 3-5 years’ relevant work experience ideally within a Strategy Consulting environment; experience working on energy/ infrastructure topics is highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated interest and experience on energy transition and sustainability targets
  • Highly logical and numerate, with excellent analytical skills, naturally inclined to use quantitative tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An entrepreneurial attitude: Passionate, highly intellectually curious, results-oriented, and self-starting
  • Evidence of leadership, ambition, and teamwork alongside relevant work experience
  • Operates at a fast pace demonstrating the ability to influence and challenge when needed
  • Meets deadlines in compressed timeframes with strict attention to detail
  • Creates an immediate, positive, and credible impression on others
  • Proven ability to manage workstreams  
  • Ensures all reports, data and written work are correct in detail and without error
  • Can skillfully and confidently influence and negotiate, maintains a positive relationship with all parties during negotiations
  • Proactively takes on the challenge of unfamiliar tasks

Base Salary Range $165,000 – $185,000 (compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience that may fall outside of the range listed).

Flexible Work Policy 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Teneo believes in in-person collaboration when possible and if you are assigned to the New York and San Francisco offices, the company expectation is for employees to work from the office location a minimum of three times a week. We believe our work and our people benefit from face-to-face collaboration with our clients where appropriate, and therefore travel to client site may be part of your role. 

Employees who are based outside of cities where Teneo has an office are encouraged to attend the New York office on occasions throughout the year, where practicable. We welcome applicants from New York, Chicago, London, Washington, DC, Boston and San Francisco.

The kind of information we hold about you

Who has access to personal data

  • Your information may be shared internally within the company for the purposes of the recruitment process. This includes members of the HR team, interviewers involved in the recruitment process and managers in the relevant business area.
  • We may share your information with other companies within the Teneo group if, for example the role and or hiring managers are located outside of the EEA or you are applying for a senior management position, and with third parties outside of the EEA. We will make sure that appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure the confidentiality and security of your personal data.
  • Your information may be shared with a recruitment agency or search consultancy with whom you have registered or instructed to feedback on interviews or process your application or the contacts you have nominated as your referees.
  • Your information may be shared with a third party provider of skills, aptitude or psychometric testing used in the selection process or a third party provider of recruitment software. Any third party provider will be acting under our instructions and will process your personal data for the purposes set out in this Notice and in accordance with our instructions. Any third party provider will be required to have appropriate security measures in place to protect your personal information in line with our policies.
  • Graduate Entry: If you have made an application to our graduate scheme we may share your information with a third party service provider who acts on our behalf to assist with our graduate recruitment. Any third party provider will be acting under our instructions and will process your personal data for the purposes set out in this Notice and in accordance with our instructions. Any third party provider will be required to have appropriate security measures in place to protect your personal information in line with our policies.

Data security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost or destroyed, misused or disclosed and is not accessed except by our personnel in the proper performance of their duties.

Data retention

How long will you keep my information for?

If your application for employment is unsuccessful, we will keep your data 3 years after we have informed you that your application was unsuccessful. We keep your data for this period so that we can show that the recruitment process has been conducted in a fair and transparent way. We also retain your personal data so that we can notify you of future job opportunities if they arise.  At the end of this period, we will securely destroy your personal data.

If your application for employment is successful, personal data collected during the recruitment process will be transferred to your personnel file and retained during your employment. Further details on this are provided in the Employee Privacy Notice.

Your rights in connection with personal information

Under certain circumstances, by law you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal information
  • Request correction of the personal information that we hold about you.
  • Request erasure of your personal information where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it
  • Object to processing of your personal information where there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground.
  • Request the restriction of processing of your personal information.
  • Request the transfer of your personal information to another party.
