The Opportunity

We work side-by-side with a company’s CEO and senior executive team, providing bespoke advice and support based on an on-the-ground understanding of the client’s specific business needs.
As Senior Managing Director, you will be responsible for delivering our unique model of advisory to the C-suite of corporations and investment firms. This role will also be responsible for the overall growth strategy, team leadership and top-tier client service delivery for which Teneo is renowned.
You will have an ability to advise across core Strategy and Communications disciplines of corporate communications, government affairs, crisis and issues management, investor and media relations, ESG and geopolitical risk.
You will demonstrate direct and personal ownership of the successes and future of Teneo and have had a transformative impact on the Japanese market that is proven consistently and over time. Reporting to the Asia Pacific CEO of Strategy & Communications, you will be a core member and contributor to the regional business, and to Teneo globally.
Outside of delivering Strategy & Communications advisory, you will work closely with Teneo's other advisory businesses - Financial Advisory, People Advisory, Management Consulting and Risk Advisory to deliver integrated, strategic solutions to C-suite executives and Boards.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and lead commercial efforts for Teneo across Japan, achieving clear targets. Be responsible for generating and developing new and organic growth opportunities, working collaboratively with business and market leads in Asia Pacific and globally, in an integrated team effort.
- Lead integration efforts across all businesses to unlock revenue with both existing and new clients. As part of this, the individual will be required to provide client counsel at the highest level to broaden client mandates across the various business lines and markets.
- Develop high-impact strategy and solutions for clients in high-stakes situations, in the face of a changing operating environment and stakeholder expectations.
- Confidently present recommendations to C-suite executives based on financial analytics and modelling, research, strategic and creative thinking, a credible point of view and perspective.
- Lead with the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect for colleagues. Embody Teneo's values in all interactions internally and externally.
- Accepts responsibility for making complex decisions impacting colleagues and clients in a timely and transparent manner.

Requirements
- Significant Experience: in professional services, and or client-side experience, leading a growing business, procuring, and managing clients/client relationships, ideally from a high-touch consulting and customer centric environment.
- Commercial Acumen: with the ability to consistently convert client engagement and close sales.
- Able to articulate the Teneo promise, and then own the ability to shape and deliver that promise to clients to create clear outcomes.
- Ability to Distil Complexity: A creative and strategic thinker in the area of reputation management, sees around corners, approaches communications from new angles.
- Financial and Investor Acumen: Extensive experience with capital markets, accounting and finance, financial modelling, as well as reporting, financial disclosures, quarterly releases, shareholder activism and the regulatory landscape.
- Executive Presence: Gravitas, confidence, ability to present to a CEO (C-Suite leadership team).
- Effective Relationship Building: Strong relationships with CEOs, CFOs, and Board-level executives.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience building/growing teams, strong management, and organisational skills with the ability to develop and execute multi-platform strategies for clients while working with the client and Teneo account teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree; CFA, MBA and/or EMBA preferred.
