Senior Accountant, Financial Advisory

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant/Management Accountant to join our London finance team, reporting directly to the Finance Manager/Financial Controller and supporting our Financial Advisory business. This is a broad and visible position, offering significant exposure to senior stakeholders. The role combines core reporting responsibilities with opportunities to enhance controls, improve processes, and provide support for commercial decision-making.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, department heads, and the wider finance team, playing a critical part in delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.

 

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Taking ownership of the preparation and review of monthly and yearly management accounts, providing variance analysis and detailed commentary.
  • Supporting senior management with timely financial insights aligned with operational and strategic goals.

 

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Supporting budgeting activities, reforecasts, and cash flow projections, working closely with stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of business performance.
  • Monitoring adherence to budgets and effectively addressing any variances with departmental heads.

 

Accounting Operations

  • Managing and reviewing intercompany reconciliations, debtor analyses, and unbilled AR reports.
  • Managing month-end and year-end timetables and compliance requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with both internal controls and external statutory requirements, including VAT, PSA, ONS, and other relevant submissions.
  • Overseeing AP processes, including invoice and expense reviews and approvals, along with vendor payments. Approving payment runs and bank transactions, ensuring compliance with policies and proper documentation.
  • Analysing profit and loss and balance sheet performance, providing clear commentary on significant movements and key drivers.
  • Maintaining strong financial controls through timely monthly reconciliations, control file management, and robust balance sheet reviews using FloQast.
  • Delivering a monthly finance induction session to new joiners in the Financial Advisory business.

 

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Proactively identifying and implementing financial system improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensuring adherence to internal controls and compliance with local regulatory and statutory rules.

 

Team Collaboration & Management

  • Providing mentorship and direction to team members in accounts payable and revenue management.
  • Supporting the audit process alongside the Finance Manager/Financial Controller, serving as a key liaison with auditors, banks, and global finance colleagues.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Monthly management accounts and analysis.
  • Budget forecasts and variance reports.
  • Accurate and timely VAT/ONS and statutory submissions and other compliance reporting requirements
  • Continuous system improvements and compliance tracking.

 

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise
  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite preferable).
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel with expertise in advanced formulas.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles and accounting standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ensures accuracy in reports, data, and written work.
  • Proactively develops and implements operational improvements.
  • Manages and prioritises multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Calm, resilient, and proactive in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to clearly explain the rationale behind processes and documentation.

  • Willing to adopt and promote best practices across the finance function.

  • Holding or working towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
  • 1–2 years’ minimum experience in a Senior Accountant or Management Accountant role, preferably within professional services.
  • Proven track record in team leadership and financial systems management.
