Terran Orbital is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Director, Spacecraft Design Engineering, the Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design and development of satellite structures, mechanisms, and related hardware. This is a hands-on opportunity to work with real spacecraft systems while gaining experience in CAD tools, spacecraft design processes, and launch vehicle requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support satellite component design using SolidWorks and CREO
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and optimization
- Assist in troubleshooting mechanical design challenges with cross-functional teams
- Prepare drawings, reports, and engineering documentation
- Research materials, tools, and emerging technologies relevant to spacecraft development
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Able to work full time, onsite in Irvine, CA for 8 – 12 weeks starting in June 2026 (no relocation stipend, must be local).
- Passion for the space industry
- CAD experience required; proficiency preferred
- Strong problem-solving, self‑starting mindset, and eagerness to learn
- Preferred: leadership experience or participation in engineering clubs (Rocketry, CubeSat, DBF, Formula SAE, etc.)
- Students with 1 year remaining preferred; 2 years remaining also welcome
- U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance.
Salary Range
- Freshman/Sophomore - $25 per hour
- Junior - $27.50 per hour
- Senior/Graduate - $30 per hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands
