Senior Project or Associate Engineer – Remediation Engineering Focus

The Role


Terraphase Engineering is seeking a Senior Project or Associate Engineer to join our team in our Oakland or Pleasanton, CA offices. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the completion of engineering deliverables (design details, drawings, calculations, and reports) and management duties for various investigation and design projects.


Key Responsibilities:

At the Senior Project level, the successful candidate will deliver the key responsibilities described below at the deliverable or project level under the supervision of Terraphase Senior- and Principal-level staff, including Terraphase project managers, Client Managers, and internal subject matter experts.

At the Associate level, the successful candidate will lead and manage the delivery of key responsibilities described below in collaboration with Terraphase Principal-level staff, but with day-to-day responsibility for safe, quality, and efficient project delivery,

· Serve as Project Manager for a variety of environmental projects, especially site investigation and remediation projects, including: o Develop project scopes and budgets.

o Work with Terraphase project and operational leads to develop effective project teams to execute the project scope.

o Use Terraphase project management software to assign, track, and review the quality and timely delivery of project tasks.

o Manage subconsultant/subcontractor contracts, including issuing agreements.

o Manage project finances, including monitoring project financial metrics using Terraphase financial management software, managing scope and budget, managing changes in scope, and timely project invoicing.

· Primary or contributing author of project deliverables such as, Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Studies (RI/FS), Remedial Action Plans (RAW/RAPs).

· Lead development of environmental remediation design and implementation deliverables, including:

o Develop and compile project basis of design parameters, including preparation of Basis of Design documents.

o Management and development of engineering analyses, drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates for remedial projects to Terraphase and industry-established standards.

o Work with internal teams (CAD, GIS, database staff) to develop high-quality plans and figures, including review of draft deliverables provided by staff.

o Requests for Proposals and similar procurement documents for implementation of environmental remediation projects.

· Plan and oversee or directly develop project Health and Safety Plans for the safe implementation of environmental investigation and remediation field work.

· Plan and coordinate field activities and oversee project field implementation at complex sites, including:

o Work with project managers and senior staff to develop field implementation oversight priorities for Terraphase staff.

o Develop and communicate Construction Quality Administration (CQA) requirements for Terraphase oversight staff to execute during field implementation.

o Support the safe implementation of field work by ensuring consistent implementation of project Health and Safety Plans and Terraphase SOPs.

o Track and communicate project progress and issues to internal and external project stakeholders.

o Work with Terraphase experts to proactively and safely address and resolve issues as they emerge.

· Significantly contribute to regulatory interactions and act as a key point of contact with clients and agencies · Contribute to the preparation of competitive proposal packages r other business development activities.

· Provide hands-on mentorship and oversight to junior technical staff


Who You Are

· Bachelor's (required) or Master's (preferred) degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering

· Minimum 7 years of environmental/engineering consulting experience

· California Civil Engineering PE required

· OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with current refresher training

· Proven experience with remedial investigation and design of mitigation or remediation systems (VIMS, SVE, air sparge, in-situ enhanced bioremediation, or in-situ chemical oxidation, etc.)

· Experienced in project financial management with project budgets of $200,000 or more

· Implementation of environmental remediation projects in the field, including construction oversight/management

· Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D or ArcGIS typical for the preparation of engineering design work for environmental remediation projects

· Strong health and safety awareness and culture

· Familiarity with Bay Area environmental consulting environment, regulatory agencies and environmental landscape

· Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills

· Comfortable with regulator interaction and client conversations early in the project process

· Preferred Experience

· Active in technical community (e.g., presenting at and attending conferences)

· Staff supervision

Compensation for this position is based on years of experience, technical expertise, technical education, and geographic location.

Pay Range

$95,000 - $125,000 USD
