Director of Data Center Market Development

TerraPower is seeking an experienced, dynamic and results-driven Director of Datacenter Engagement to lead and advance strategic growth initiatives across hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and cloud data center markets. This role will directly report to the SVP of Business Development & Strategy, and will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building executive-level partnerships, shaping long-term strategy, and driving revenue growth within the data center ecosystem. The ideal candidate brings high level of ownership and accountability as well as a deep knowledge of the data center industry and ecosystems, infrastructure, power and cooling systems, digital infrastructure trends, and strong relationships within the industry.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop, lead and execute actionable, go-to-market strategies targeting areas such as hyperscalers, including AI, cloud computing, collocation, and enterprise data center operators.
    • Identify, prioritize and pursue high-value data center market opportunities for TerraPower aligned with TerraPower’s commercial strategy and business plan.
    • Develop the execution of multi-year growth strategies targeting US and global data center companies to support TerraPower’s commercial strategy and business plan.
    • Conduct market analysis, competitive intelligence, and industry trend forecasting in partnership with Engineering, Commercial Strategy, Legal, Operations and Finance departments.
    • Identify adjacent market expansion opportunities related to large load data center customers, including AI infrastructure, edge computing, sustainability, energy optimization.
    • Build the team, develop and retain staff pointed toward data center market sector development.
  • Business Development
    • Identify, qualify, execute and close high-value strategic opportunities.
    • Build executive relationships with key stakeholders in the hyperscale and datacenter industry, including cloud computing, AI and data center developers.
    • Partner with Finance to develop business cases aligned with corporate strategy
    • Ensure alignment between business development strategy and technical/project feasibility
    • Lead complex RFP/RFQ responses and negotiations and data center operations.
    • Structure strategic deals, partnerships, joint ventures, and long-term supply agreements.
    • Prepare and present informed recommendations to executive leadership

  • Customer & Market Engagement
    • Represent the company at industry forums and conferences.
    • Monitor and influence policy and regulatory developments
    • Translate customer requirements into alignments with TerraPower’s Natrium technology.
    • Lead data center sector market intelligence collection efforts.

Key Qualifications and Skills 

  • 10+ years of deep experience in business development, strategy and sales leadership within:
    • Data center infrastructure (power, cooling, racks, modular solutions)
    • Cloud or colocation providers
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, economics, business or related field
  • MBA or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in energy and sustainability solutions for digital infrastructure
  • Demonstrated success structuring complex, multi-party agreements
  • Demonstrated success closing multi-million-dollar strategic deals from origination through contract execution and implementation.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Data center market and economics
    • AI-driven infrastructure growth
    • Sustainability and ESG trends
  • Experience navigating regulatory and policy environments
  • Strong financial modeling and commercial evaluation skills
  • Ability to develop and defend investment-grade business cases to executive leadership
  • Strong executive presence and negotiation skills, with experience supporting board-level decision making.
  • The successful candidate will possess established relationships with key stakeholders across utilities, hyperscalers, developers, regulators and infrastructure partners.
  • Must have experience working on large-scale, capital-intensive projects
  • Must have a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Must be able to travel 30-50% to further Business Development department efforts, partnerships and order book development

Salary Range$196,537 - $294,806

 

* We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications experience.  This range is specific to Washington State.
