Research Associate/Senior Research Associate, mRNA Process Development (downstream)
Your experience includes…
- BS/MS with 1-3 years of experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related discipline.
- Technical understanding and experience in mRNA process development including mRNA synthesis, purification and analysis.
- Hands-on experience with mRNA in vitro transcription (IVT).
- Hands-on experience with downstream purification technologies (AKTA, TFF), preferably in the context of mRNA.
- Understanding of nucleic acid biochemistry, enzymatic and chemical reactions, PCR reaction, plasmid processing, and standard analytical techniques for macromolecules is preferred.
- Track record of completing deliverables within specified timelines.
- Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and technical setting
- The successful candidate should be collaborative, communicative, and passionate about the next generation of genetic medicines.
Preferred Qualifications…
- Experience in using analytical technologies including nanodrop, Tape station, Lunatic, Fragment analyzer, capillary electrophoresis.
- Experience with the development of downstream purification methods for mRNA.
- Experience with handling automated systems like Kingfisher, TECAN, Hamilton, or a desire to learn.
- Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) statistical tools for process improvement.

- Develop and optimize mRNA downstream process of mRNA.
- Learn and execute automation instruments including liquid handlers (TECAN, Kingfisher) for automated high throughput miniature reactions and purification.
- Analyze mRNA quality by nanodrop, tape station, fragment analyzer etc.
- Support the generation of preclinical mRNA high quality material and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain thorough electronic lab notebooks and documentation records (e.g. Benchling).
- Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements and procedures.

Ana Stringari De Castro – Scientist II, PD-RNA
Born and raised in Brazil, Ana moved to the US to get her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. During undergrad, Ana demonstrated interest for academic research, which motivated her to pursue a Ph. D at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she focused on the design and synthesis of protein-based vaccines. During this time, Ana had the opportunity to gain expertise in molecular biology techniques, protein expression and purification systems, and analytical assays. Ana has been working in the gene therapy field since 2021 as a process development scientist. Ana has been with Tessera for over 1 year as part of the RNA Process Development team and has been involved in the planning and execution of several large-scale production batches. Outside of work, you can find Ana running along the Charles River.
