About Thalamus

Thalamus is the market leader in graduate medical education recruitment technology, empowering over 8,000 residency and fellowship programs at 800+ health systems and all new physicians throughout the US annually. As we expand beyond GME into broader physician recruitment, our unique dataset—spanning the full profiles of residency/fellowship applicants and programs—positions us to revolutionize hiring in healthcare through AI/ML and data-driven insights. This furthers our mission to ensure the right doctor ends up at the right hospital to treat the right patients.

About the Role

The Gateway team builds and maintains the integration infrastructure that connects Thalamus products to each other and to third-party systems. As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you’ll work across the stack to design and implement APIs, services, and data pipelines that power secure, reliable, and scalable data exchange. You’ll also contribute to frontend development in Angular for user-facing components tied to our integration workflows. You’ll collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, product managers, and customer-facing stakeholders to enable seamless feature development across our platform.

What You Will Achieve

  • Design, build, ship, and troubleshoot scalable full-stack applications and services using Node.js, Express.js, PostgreSQL, Angular, and cloud technologies to power APIs, data pipelines, and integrations between internal platforms and third-party services.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering peers to develop scalable systems for secure and reliable data exchange.

  • Enable downstream teams by providing integration support, test data scaffolding, and technical guidance for features that depend on shared data flows.

  • Actively participate in diagnosing and resolving production issues, including customer-reported problems related to integration services, in partnership with support and product teams.

You Should Have

  • Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience building backend services using Node.js.

  • Experience building frontend applications in Angular, including component design and state management.

  • Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.

  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) used to build and scale APIs and integrations.

  • Demonstrated experience handling high-throughput data ingestion and processing pipelines.

  • Experience designing, documenting, and integrating RESTful APIs in production systems.

  • Comfortable collaborating across distributed teams and time zones using Slack, GitHub, and video conferencing.

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with exposure to platform or integration-heavy environments.

  • Solid debugging and troubleshooting skills, especially in production environments.

  • Interest in AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices like observability, continuous delivery, and automated testing.

Bonus

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Exposure to the healthcare, SaaS, or recruitment tech space
