Scope and Responsibilities
The Controller serves as a key leader of the Finance team by overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring an efficient month-end close process, leading and driving the annual audit process, and driving a culture of continuous improvement. As a direct report to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller works closely across the organization to develop and maintain organizational accounting and reporting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate for this position should be proactive, detail-oriented, organized, a strong communicator, and passionate about serving the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. This role is hybrid and requires residency in the New England region.
Specific Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly financial close process
- Preparation of monthly financial statements
- Responsible for revenue recognition and pledge receivables
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
- Cash management
- Analyze and discuss monthly actual to budget financial reports with stakeholders
- Annual operating budget preparation
- Lead financial operations
- Lead the annual financial audit and 990 preparation
- Assist in Accounting ERP selection and lead implementation
- Grants management for temporarily restricted funds
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, accounting policies, processes and systems of internal controls
- Identify areas for improvement and implement improvements to processes
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
Key Selection Criteria
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field of study or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Graduate degree in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.
- Fifteen or more years of experience in Accounting/Finance management and reporting
- Extensive work experience with Not-For-Profit Entities (i.e. ASC 958); Foundation preferred
- Previous experience using Salesforce and various accounting software

- Knowledge and familiarity of accounting policies, processes and internal controls
- Knowledge and familiarity with the use of Microsoft Excel (Lookups, Pivot Tables, etc.)
- Ability to manage and direct a team of staff and vendors
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Ability to effectively manage multiple and concurrent priorities
- Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to analyze data, understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis
Working Hours
- Requires regular weekend, off-hours, or evening work. Some travel required.
Compensation and Benefits
- TAAF provides competitive compensation and benefits including health insurance (including dental and vision), paid time off, life insurance, STD/LTD, and a 401k retirement plan (with matching) to benefit eligible employees.
- Anticipated salary for this role is $165,000.00
