Location: Baptist Health IcePlex / War Memorial Auditorium, Fort Lauderdale, FL (with occasional work across the broader campus, including Amerant Bank Arena)

Position Summary We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Building Engineer to join the Engineering/Facilities team supporting the Baptist Health IcePlex and War Memorial Auditorium on a part-time basis. This role is responsible for the general maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of building systems — including HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and ice plant/refrigeration equipment — to keep the facility running safely and reliably for programming, events, and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine rounds and inspections of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the facility

  • Monitor and support the ice plant/refrigeration system, including compressors, pumps, and related controls, escalating issues to senior engineering staff as needed

  • Respond to basic HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical service calls and perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance

  • Complete assigned work orders and document completed maintenance tasks accurately

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of building systems and equipment for scheduled events, public skate sessions, and hockey programs

  • Monitor building automation/control systems and report anomalies or alarms to the appropriate supervisor

  • Support other trades (electrical, painting, general maintenance) with basic tasks as directed

  • Follow all safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures when working on mechanical or electrical equipment

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe mechanical/engineering work environment

  • Respond to urgent facility issues during scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, and event-driven schedules

Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years of experience in building/facility engineering, maintenance, or a related mechanical trade; venue, arena, or ice rink experience a plus

  • Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical systems

  • Familiarity with refrigeration or ice plant systems a plus, but not required

  • Ability to read basic work orders, equipment manuals, and safety data sheets (SDS)

  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools, ladders, and basic diagnostic equipment

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn facility-specific systems

  • Ability to work flexible part-time hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays around the event/program schedule

  • Physical ability to stand, climb, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly

  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade coursework or certification a plus

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced venue environment with a schedule tied to public skate sessions, hockey programs, concerts, and other live events

  • Exposure to cold temperatures (rink areas), mechanical/equipment rooms, and varying conditions across interior/exterior work

  • Must be able to pass a background check
