Phoenix Cyberknife & Arizona Radiation Therapy Specialist is seeking for a Certified Medical Dosimetrist

 

The Certified Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for designing, calculating, and optimizing individualized radiation treatment plans in collaboration with Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists. This position plays a critical role in delivering safe, accurate, and high-quality radiation therapy using advanced treatment technologies, including Varian Ethos, TrueBeam, Cyberknife and TomoTherapy.

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise in treatment planning, image-guided and adaptive radiation therapy, and complex treatment techniques. The Dosimetrist must be able to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians, physicists, radiation therapists, and the broader multidisciplinary oncology team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Treatment Planning

  • Design and generate individualized radiation therapy treatment plans based on physician prescriptions, target volumes, normal tissue constraints, and established clinical protocols.
  • Perform treatment planning for a wide range of disease sites using 3D conformal radiation therapy, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, and adaptive radiation therapy techniques.
  • Utilize advanced planning systems and technology to create safe, efficient, and clinically optimal treatment plans.
  • Review and evaluate treatment plans to ensure appropriate target coverage, dose conformity, homogeneity, and adherence to normal tissue constraints.
  • Perform dose calculations and plan optimization in accordance with physician directives and departmental standards.
  • Participate in physician plan review and make appropriate modifications based on clinical feedback.
  • Prepare treatment documentation and communicate plan requirements clearly to the treatment delivery team.

Ethos Adaptive Radiation Therapy

  • Develop and optimize treatment plans for patients treated on the Varian Ethos platform.
  • Participate in adaptive radiation therapy workflows, including plan preparation, contour review support, plan evaluation, and adaptive treatment planning.
  • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Therapists to support daily adaptive treatment workflows.
  • Evaluate adapted treatment plans to ensure clinical objectives, target coverage, and organ-at-risk constraints are met.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standardized workflows, templates, and planning protocols for Ethos adaptive treatments.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging adaptive radiation therapy technologies and best practices.

TrueBeam Treatment Planning

  • Create and optimize treatment plans for delivery on Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators.
  • Develop plans utilizing advanced treatment techniques, including IMRT, 3D, SBRT, and SRS, as applicable.
  • Support planning for image-guided radiation therapy and motion management techniques.
  • Collaborate with physicians and physicists to develop treatment approaches for complex and high-dose treatments.
  • Ensure plans are optimized for efficient and safe delivery while meeting established clinical objectives.

Quality and Safety

  • Perform thorough plan checks and participate in quality assurance processes before treatment delivery.
  • Verify treatment plans are complete, accurate, and consistent with physician prescriptions and departmental policies.
  • Work closely with Medical Physics to support patient-specific quality assurance and resolve treatment planning concerns.
  • Identify potential safety concerns and participate in corrective action and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and departmental requirements.
  • Participate in chart rounds, peer review, quality improvement projects, and multidisciplinary conferences as appropriate.

Clinical Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Radiation Oncologists to understand treatment intent and develop appropriate planning strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with Medical Physicists regarding treatment planning, dose calculations, plan quality, and technical considerations.
  • Work with Radiation Therapists to ensure treatment plans are clinically deliverable and operationally efficient.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and contribute dosimetry expertise to patient care decisions.
  • Provide education and support to clinical staff regarding treatment planning techniques and technology.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of treatment planning standards, templates, protocols, and procedures.
  • Participate in the implementation of new technologies, software, treatment techniques, and clinical workflows.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation within the electronic medical record and radiation oncology information systems.
  • Stay current with advancements in radiation oncology, adaptive therapy, treatment planning, and dosimetry.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support clinical operations and patient care.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited Medical Dosimetry program or equivalent accredited program.
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) through the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation therapy treatment planning principles, anatomy, radiation physics, and radiobiology.
  • Experience with advanced treatment planning techniques, including IMRT and VMAT.
  • Strong knowledge of treatment plan optimization, dose-volume histograms, and normal tissue constraints.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple patient plans and deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary oncology team.

Preferred

  • Experience planning treatments for Varian Ethos adaptive radiation therapy.
  • Experience with Varian TrueBeam treatment planning.
  • Experience with Cyberknife and TomoTherapy treatment planning.
  • Experience with SBRT, SRS, and other complex high-dose treatment techniques.
  • Experience with adaptive radiation therapy workflows.
  • Experience with Eclipse, Ethos treatment planning systems, Precision planning systems, or comparable radiation oncology software.
  • Experience in a high-volume or multi-site Radiation Oncology practice.

Work Environment

  • Primarily an outpatient Radiation Oncology environment with remote opportunities
  • May support multiple treatment locations and providers as needed.
  • Requires close collaboration with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, Nurses, APPs, and administrative staff.
  • Strong emphasis on patient safety, treatment quality, innovation, teamwork, and continuous professional development.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods at a computer and treatment planning workstation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology, workflows, and clinical priorities.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and organizational policies.
