Location: NYC (hybrid, 3 days/week in office, 2 days remote)

Salary: $120,000-$140,000 DOE

ABOUT US

The Freedom Together Foundation’s mission is to support people who have been denied power to build it, so they can change unjust systems and create a more democratic, inclusive, and sustainable society. We are dedicated to long-lasting, systemic change. Over the last 10 years, Freedom Together has grown to be one of the largest US foundations, awarding over $300 million in grants each year.

THE POSITION

The Relationship Manager is a critical new position that will ensure that Freedom Together Foundation’s co-investment and movement ecosystem thrive. This person will report to the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and will cultivate and steward deep, values-aligned relationships with funders, philanthropic advisors, donor networks, and aligned institutions. The Relationship Manager will anchor internal systems, research, and coordinate meaningful and timely engagement with key stakeholders to continually inspire investment in our collective work.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on connection, loves tracking relational data, and can see both the big picture and the small moves that lead to long-term alignment and partnership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Coordination & Strategic Support

  • Serve as the operational right hand to the VP of Strategic Partnerships, ensuring top-tier relationships are tracked, moved forward, and cultivated with care.
  • Partner with staff and senior leadership to create briefing materials, talking points, and donor profiles that reflect the story, values, and power of our work.
  • Coordinate management strategies across the leadership team, ensuring that Freedom Together’s top partners are consistently engaged and inspired.
  • Help design and manage our overall “touchpoint strategy”—tracking and initiating moments of engagement that deepen connection and trust.

Research & Intelligence

  • Conduct strategic research on donors, donor networks, and aligned institutions to identify new opportunities and support personalized engagement.
  • Monitor news, philanthropy announcements, and political trends that may impact our work or the priorities of our philanthropic allies—and brief senior leadership as needed.
  • Maintain a shared ecosystem map that tracks key influencers, advisors, and funders across our movement terrain.

Data & Systems Leadership

  • Maintain and evolve our internal database and systems to ensure accurate, useful, and timely information on relationships.
  • Work with the communications teams to streamline data tracking and storytelling related to donor engagement.
  • Develop seamless processes to evaluate what’s working in our donor strategy and where we can improve.

Public Engagement & Representation

  • Attend funder calls, donor gatherings, and meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate our team’s presence at philanthropic conferences and events, including affinity group gatherings and progressive donor spaces.
  • Support the development of membership strategies with aligned donor networks, foundations, and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • 4–6 years of experience in relationship management, development, or political/advocacy fundraising.
  • Excellent writer and communicator, comfortable translating strategy into clear briefs or updates.
  • Tech- and systems-savvy; able to use (or learn) CRM tools, Airtable, Google Suite, and Slack effectively.
  • Strong research instincts and a curiosity-driven approach to people, power, and networks.
  • Able to manage up and across a team to keep timelines and relationships on track.
  • Sharp instincts and judgment, grounded in experience, about how to prioritize among competing pressing goals and a high level of humility and comfort with supporting other leaders.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships, manage complex issues, and build a culture of shared accountability.
  • Excellent project management, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Embraces diversity within an organization and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Deep alignment with Freedom Together’s mission and values, and a strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
