What You’ll Accomplish

  • Foster Meaningful Community Relationships: Develop long-term, trust-based connections with community organizations and groups to move beyond single-touchpoint interactions. Identify community needs and refine outreach strategies to foster a deeper sense of partnership and mutual benefit.
  • Strategic Community Programming: Collaborate with the Sr. Director and internal teams to refine community and Museum offerings. This involves creating inclusive and engaging experiences that address community priorities. These efforts include identifying and inviting Community Advisory Board members to guide organizational initiatives, supporting the delivery of the Heritage and History Month Celebrations, among other things.
  • Relationship Management: Alongside the Specialist, Communications and Outreach, use the Community Engagement team’s intranet presence to connect with and inspire the MoS staff with engagement opportunities. Additionally, leverage newsletters, social media, and other channels to foster ongoing engagement and build a strong, sustained community presence.
  • Community Space Use & Co-Creation: Lead efforts to revamp the community space use strategy for ERC, Engineer’s Enclave, and Suit Cabot Lab, ensuring these spaces effectively serve community needs. Connect internal Museum programs with community organizations to foster co-creation and collaborative program development.
  • Innovative Community Engagement Initiatives: Utilize Museum resources to serve unique community needs, such as sponsoring youth sports teams in underserved neighborhoods or initiating national art projects involving diverse communities. Develop programs like these in partnership with Museum colleagues, funders, and local stakeholders.
  • Support Large-Scale Cultural Engagement: Coordinate high-impact events, such as a planned visit by Mexican astronaut José Hernández, in collaboration with consulates and community leaders. Leverage these opportunities to create authentic engagement with the Hispanic/Latin community.
  • Oversee Data Collection and Evaluation: Collaborate with the Research and Evaluation team on 5-10 annual research initiatives to measure program effectiveness, ensuring that all community programming is data-informed and responsive to community needs.
  • Team Leadership and Management: Manage a team of 2 full-time and 4 part-time employees, guiding their engagement with diverse communities and supporting them in community-centric roles.

  • Cultural Competence and Humility: Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural humility and competence gained through extensive experience with diverse communities. Ability to adapt and communicate across cultural contexts to foster inclusion and respect.
  • Strategic Relationship Building: Proven ability to develop and maintain meaningful, longlasting relationships with external organizations, with an emphasis on mutual goals and cocreation.
  • Community Programming Expertise: Experienced in creating, refining, and evaluating impactful community-focused programs both within the community and the Museum, consistently building trust and inclusivity.
  • Data-Informed Decision-Making: Skilled in collaborating on data collection and program evaluation to measure community impact, adapting strategies based on findings to improve engagement.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Proven ability to develop creative solutions to community needs, strategically leveraging Museum resources for new engagement initiatives such as youth sports initiatives or national art projects.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Demonstrated leadership in managing and mentoring staff, fostering a positive and collaborative environment for team members working directly with diverse communities. 
  • Bilingual Communication: Proficient in English and Spanish, with strong communication skills to engage with diverse community members and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams): Demonstrated ability to create professional documents, manage and analyze data using spreadsheets, develop engaging presentations, and efficiently manage email communication and calendars

Salary Range

$62,772 - $78,475 USD
