Staff Editor, International Edition

The New York Times International Edition is looking for a versatile staff editor to join our tight-knit print operation in Hong Kong. The position will involve using superior editing skills to write engaging headlines and other display types, patch up contradictions and omissions, ferret out errors, and correct spelling and grammar mistakes.

There will also be opportunities to step into larger roles that will require high-level news judgment skills -- with a particular focus on what may appeal to an international audience. The International Edition is curated for readers who have a global focus.

This is a hybrid position based in Hong Kong and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. You will report directly to the Deputy Editor, International edition, who is based in Hong Kong. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Edit articles for the international print edition of The New York Times
  • Write headlines, captions and other display type
  • Exercise high-level news judgment
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Our ideal candidate:

  • At least several years editing experience in a daily news operation
  • Strong editing skills
  • Experience writing engaging headlines and other display type
  • Strong news judgment
  • Familiarity with page design is preferred but not essential
