Senior Software Engineer, Developer Platforms - GenAI

About the Role
The New York Times is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join DevEx Platforms team. The Developer Platforms organization provides cloud infrastructure and tooling to over 60 teams and 450+ engineers in NYT Product Engineering via an internal developer platform.
The DevEx Platforms team consists of 5 engineers of different levels who deeply care about other engineers' experiences. We design and build UX for NYT's internal developer platform. We collaborate with NYT product and platform engineering teams and build products for them to support development. You will have a focus on created GenAI-augmented developer experiences.
This is a hybrid remote/in-office role. Work from home up to 3 days a week.
Responsibilities:

You will explore and build tools to support our product engineers with GenAI-augmented developer experiences, in collaboration with product managers and internal AI community.

You will contribute to our internal development platform.

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

You will report to the Engineering Manager of the DevEx Platforms team
Basic Qualifications:
-
5+ years of professional software engineering experience
-
2+ years of experience improving developer experience through workflows, documentation, and capabilities of the internal platform.

Experience designing and building cloud native applications using Golang
-
Hands-on experience building software using GenAI tools, like GitHub's Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
3+ years of hands on experience managing and deploying resources in AWS.

2+ years of experience building software in python
-
2+ years of experience managing workloads deployed on Kubernetes.

Experience in prompt engineering or building AI-powered tools.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$140,000 - $155,000 USD
