About the role: The Environmental Permitting Specialist supports the development and construction of nuclear energy projects by leading environmental review and permitting strategies. This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Energy (DOE), and other key agencies. The specialist navigates NEPA processes, coordinates technical assessments, and interfaces with stakeholders to move nuclear projects forward safely, efficiently, and responsibly.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate environmental permitting activities for nuclear energy projects—including field surveys, environmental impact reviews, and documentation
- Liaise directly with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), DOE, EPA, and local agencies to secure permits and regulatory approvals
- Provide strategic guidance on NEPA compliance, site-specific environmental assessments, and nuclear-specific permit requirements
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to meet technical, safety, and compliance milestones
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance with environmental, radiological, and construction standards
- Manage permitting budgets, timelines, and client deliverables efficiently
- Uphold and promote the highest safety standards across all phases of project execution
- Travel as required to support fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and agency coordination.
Experience:
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Planning, Biology, or related discipline.
- At least 5 years’ experience in environmental consulting or permitting—preferably on nuclear or high-risk energy infrastructure projects.
- Solid grasp of relevant regulations, including:
- NEPA and related NRC environmental review processes.
- Waste and water discharge permitting (e.g., NPDES).
- Cultural and ecological resource assessments.
- Radiological environmental impact considerations.
- Proven ability to communicate technical data clearly and persuasively to both regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking in high-compliance environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support project development.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
