About the role
The Manager, Mechanical Services is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and growth of TNC Services' mechanical maintenance and field service operations. This role oversees the delivery of high-quality mechanical maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, and outage support services for commercial nuclear power plants and other power generation customers while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Working closely with utility customers, field teams, project managers, and company leadership, the Manager, Mechanical Services provides technical leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction to support successful outage execution and long-term client partnerships. This position plays a key role in expanding TNC Services' mechanical service capabilities while driving operational excellence across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Project Leadership
- Lead the execution of mechanical maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and outage support projects from planning through completion.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical field services, ensuring work is performed in accordance with industry best practices, customer specifications, OEM recommendations, and applicable codes and standards.
- Develop project scopes, work packages, schedules, staffing plans, budgets, estimates, and execution strategies for assigned projects.
- Monitor project performance, budgets, schedules, and key performance indicators to ensure successful project execution.
- Support proposal development, technical estimating, bid preparation, and business development initiatives for mechanical service opportunities.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, maintenance records, inspection reports, and operational reporting to support business decisions.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and provide leadership to mechanical technicians, field service personnel, subcontractors, and technical specialists during maintenance and outage activities.
- Mentor and develop technical personnel through coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
- Partner with the Training Team to develop and implement technical and safety training programs while ensuring employees maintain required certifications and qualifications.
Technical Oversight & Compliance
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable safety regulations, nuclear quality requirements, plant procedures, OEM guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, deficiencies, equipment failures, or maintenance requirements.
- Provide technical guidance for diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical system issues.
- Conduct audits and quality reviews to verify compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
- Maintain awareness of evolving industry codes, OEM recommendations, emerging technologies, and best practices related to mechanical systems and rotating equipment.
Customer & Business Development
- Partner with utility customers to understand maintenance objectives and develop customized service solutions that improve equipment reliability, plant performance, and asset longevity.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through responsive communication, technical expertise, and exceptional service delivery.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Recruiting, and Project Management teams to ensure appropriate staffing and successful project delivery.
- Develop proposals, service agreements, and technical solutions aligned with customer needs and company capabilities.
- Participate in outage planning meetings, customer reviews, technical evaluations, industry conferences, and networking events to identify new business opportunities and strengthen customer relationships.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
- 7+ years of experience supporting mechanical maintenance, repair, installation, or outage execution within power generation, energy services, or other heavy industrial environments.
- 3+ years of leadership or project management experience overseeing technical teams or field service operations.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, mechanical seals, valves, heat exchangers, piping systems, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and balance-of-plant equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, P&IDs, OEM specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience managing complex maintenance or outage projects, including estimating, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and customer expectations.
- Working knowledge of nuclear safety culture, quality assurance programs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to customer sites.
- Ability to travel up to 50%, including extended assignments during scheduled outages.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting commercial nuclear power plants or other power generation facilities.
- Experience with ASME Section III and Section XI requirements, pressure boundary maintenance, valve services, or mechanical system testing.
- Familiarity with EPRI guidance, INPO performance standards, and applicable industry regulations.
- Familiarity with mechanical diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Knowledge of balance-of-plant systems and their interaction with mechanical equipment.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management experience.
- Experience leading multi-site outage execution teams.
- Demonstrated success managing customer relationships and supporting business development initiatives.
Work Environment & Travel
- Combination of office, customer site, and field environments, including regular visits to power generation facilities and customer locations.
- Travel up to 50% for customer meetings, project oversight, outage support, and industry conferences.
- May require extended hours, shift work, or on-call availability during planned outages or emergency customer support.
- Exposure to industrial hazards, including rotating equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, and high-temperature environments; strict adherence to PPE, safety procedures, and quality standards is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization for commercial nuclear power plants, as required.
- Must be able to stand, climb, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in industrial environments as needed.

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $118,000 - $140,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
