About the role
The Project Controls Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and governance of databases and data systems that support project controls functions, including cost, schedule, risk, and performance reporting. This role ensures data integrity, system reliability, and efficient data integration across project management tools to enable accurate forecasting, reporting, and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Database Management & Administration
- Design, implement, and maintain databases supporting project controls systems (cost, scheduling, earned value, etc.)
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of databases
- Perform database tuning, optimization, backups, and recovery procedures
- Monitor database health and resolve performance issues proactively
Project Controls Systems Support
- Support integration between systems such as Primavera P6, Access, EcoSys, Power BI, or similar tools
- Manage data flows between scheduling, cost, and reporting platforms
- Maintain data structures that align with project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Control Accounts
Data Governance & Quality
- Establish and enforce data standards, validation rules, and governance practices
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of project data
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries and documentation
Reporting & Analytics
- Enable reporting solutions by structuring data for dashboards and analytics tools
- Collaborate with project controls teams to deliver reliable cost, schedule, and performance reports
- Support earned value management (EVM) data structures and reporting requirements
Automation & Integration
- Develop scripts, queries, and automation processes (SQL, Python, etc.) to streamline workflows
- Support ETL processes and data pipelines
- Integrate data across enterprise systems and project platforms
- Implement smart monitoring solutions that leverage automated anomaly detection and predictive alerting to identify database performance issues, data inconsistencies, or system bottlenecks before they impact project controls reporting and decision-making
- Explore and adopt AI-enabled tools and platforms to automate repetitive database administration tasks such as data cleansing, record deduplication, query optimization, and report generation, freeing up capacity for higher-value project controls support
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with project managers, schedulers, cost engineers, and IT teams
- Provide technical support and training to end users
- Participate in system upgrades, implementations, and migrations
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of database administration experience, preferably in project-based environments
- Strong proficiency in SQL and database platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
- Experience supporting project controls systems (Primavera P6, EcoSys, Deltek, SAP, etc.)
- Understanding of project controls principles (cost control, scheduling, EVM)
Preferred Experience
- Experience in engineering, construction, energy, or infrastructure industries
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS)
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, PowerShell)
- Certification in database administration or project controls (e.g., PMP, EVP)
- Experience with AI-powered database administration and monitoring tools (e.g., Oracle Autonomous Database, SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer, Datadog) for automated tuning, anomaly detection, and proactive performance management
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks or platforms (e.g., Python, Azure ML, AWS SageMaker) for building data quality checks, predictive models, or intelligent automation pipelines within project controls environments

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $121,000 - $143,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
