Cross-Trained Infusion Pharmacy Technician Oncology Bilingual

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
The cross-trained infusion technician is responsible for providing staffing coverage for TOI’s MIDs (Medically-Integrated Dispensaries) when needed.
Under the supervision of a physician or PIC (Physician in Charge), provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients. This includes technical aspects of oral medication data entry, dispensing and delivery, recordkeeping, inventory control, assisting with financial assistance and patient monitoring.
Assist with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing intravenous medications (chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy) under the supervision of medical oncologists and oncology RNs to ensure the safe and accurate preparation of IV medications for patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Live and exemplify TOI core values, providing outstanding customer service and promoting a positive experience for patients and staff members
- Maintain accurate patient records, including patient demographics, current medications, disease list, allergy list, insurance information, and prescription information
- Utilize pharmacy management system to screen for drug-related interactions
- Compound IV medications, including measuring and mixing according to established protocols and guidelines, and following aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment
- Process prescription and bills insurance for payment. Submit prior authorizations
- Assist patients with applying for patient financial assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs
- Assist with ordering and ensuring that the most cost-effective drugs are ordered from vendors
- Receive, verify, and process drug orders
- Assist with drug recalls and expired or non-utilized drug returns
- Prepare, label, and ensure prescriptions are ready for accuracy check and sign-off by a physician or PIC (Physician in Charge)
- Obtain patient or patient representative signature on all medications being dispensed
- File and store prescription hardcopies
- Maintain and file daily reports
- Document all patient interactions in the EMR
- Track and report monthly inventory in the pharmacy management system
- Participate in hood certification every six months
- Assist with patient monitoring activities, including prescription refills prescription dispensing, adherence, and patient follow-up
- Maintain safety by adhering to infection-control procedures, policies, and regulations
- Cross train in areas of chemo authorization (injectable) and chemo mixing (IV’s), as needed
- Comply with all accreditation standards in dispending prescriptions
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices, procedures, medications, and supplies

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician training program
- Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate preferred
- Experience in a retail pharmacy setting and/or hospital pharmacy setting required
- Minimum two years’ experience in compounding IV admixtures, including IV chemotherapy
- Active & Clear Pharmacy Technician License in state of employment
PHYSICAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS:
The position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, standing, extensive computer use, and phone interaction. Additionally, the role may require occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds for office supplies or equipment.
