JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
The Oncology Pharmacist at The Oncology Institute supports strategic and operational leadership to ensure the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of oncology medications and therapies. This role participates in pharmacy operations, supports high standards of clinical care, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives a patient-centered approach to cancer treatment across the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing optimization of chemotherapy treatment pathways to ensure evidence-based, standardized care.
- Perform remote reviews of chemotherapy and biologic orders for adherence to internal clinical policies.
- Implement mutually agreed upon therapeutic and supportive care medication use changes as per organizational policy within the patient care setting.
- Participate in utilization management (UM) through case reviews to support appropriate therapy approvals and high-quality patient care.
- Assist on ongoing management of dose rounding and vial optimization programs to enhance cost-efficiency and reduce drug waste.
- Participate in oncology formulary management, ensuring alignment with clinical best practices, cost-effectiveness, and patient needs.
- Assist in developing and maintaining medical policies that support safe, compliant, and effective use of oncology therapies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Expertise in oncology pharmacotherapy, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care medications.
- Strong knowledge of drug interactions, side effects, and dosing adjustments specific to cancer patients.
- Ability to interpret and apply clinical guidelines and evidence-based protocols in oncology care.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing, verifying, and dispensing high-risk medications.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with oncologists, nurses, and patients.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited college or university
- At least 3 years of clinical experience in oncology pharmacy or a related area.
- Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of employment (required)
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) (preferred)
PHYSICAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS:
The position involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, extensive computer use, and phone interaction. Additionally, the role may require occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds for office supplies or equipment.
