AI is part of how we work:

We are looking for people who are curious, adaptable, and excited to help shape an AI-enabled culture that delivers better outcomes for our customers and our company.

Job brief:

We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect who bridges high-level strategic vision with hands-on technical execution. In this role, you will define and maintain the target-state architecture across multiple enterprise platforms, business capabilities, and engineering domains.

Unlike traditional ivory-tower architect roles, this position demands direct engagement in the codebase and infrastructure. You will be expected to build prototypes, establish shared reference implementations, resolve complex cross-system incidents, and directly implement modern cloud, DevOps, and CI/CD foundations. You will also serve as a technical anchor, mentoring engineering teams, setting enterprise standards, and balancing technical debt with long-term business enablement.

The impact you'll make:

  • Designs and maintains enterprise-level architecture spanning multiple platforms, domains, and business capabilities, ensuring individual system designs composed into a coherent whole.
  • Translates business strategy and capability needs into target-state architectures, transition roadmaps, and sequencing plans that engineering teams can execute against.
  • Owns reference architectures, patterns, and enterprise standards for a set of domains, drives their adoption across delivery teams, and leads the design review and governance forums that uphold them.
  • Defines integration and data architecture across systems, including API strategy, event and messaging patterns, master data ownership, and system-of-record boundaries.
  • Assesses the current-state landscape to identify redundancy, technical debt, and integration gaps, then recommends rationalization, modernization, or build-versus-buy paths with cost, risk, and operational trade-offs made explicit.
  • Works hands-on in the codebase and in infrastructure as needed: prototypes and proves out architectural approaches, builds reference implementations and shared libraries, and contributes production code alongside delivery teams.
  • Implements and improves DevOps capability directly, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization, and observability, rather than only specifying how they should work.
  • Steps into delivery and incident response where architectural depth is the bottleneck, including debugging cross-system failures, performance profiling, and remediation.
  • Partners with security, privacy, and compliance functions so architectures meet regulatory, resilience, and data-protection requirements by design.
  • Guides and mentors development teams, solution and platform architects, and senior engineers, through architectural direction, design review, and code review.
  • Creates and maintains enterprise architecture documentation (e.g., C4, capability models, domain and system landscape maps, ADRs) and keeps it current as systems evolve.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you've accomplished:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or commensurate experience.
  • 5+ years in system design and software delivery, with 3+ years in an enterprise, solution, or domain architecture role operating across multiple teams or platforms.
  • Practical fluency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., coding assistants and agentic development environments) as part of day-to-day delivery, with sound judgment about where they accelerate work, where they introduce risk, and how their output must be reviewed.
  • Currently hands-on: recent, direct experience writing and shipping production code and building or operating CI/CD and cloud infrastructure, not solely oversight of others doing so.
  • Demonstrated experience defining target-state architectures and multi-quarter transition roadmaps that were actually delivered against.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns and architectural principles (e.g., 12 Factor, SOLID, DDD, EDA, SOA, microservices) and sound judgment about when each applies.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and capability modeling (e.g., TOGAF, ArchiMate, business capability maps), applied pragmatically rather than ceremonially.
  • Extensive experience with the AWS cloud platform, including cost, resilience, and multi-account or multi-region considerations.
  • Practical competency with CI/CD pipelines, containerization and infrastructure as code at a level sufficient to build and debug them independently. This includes Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, Grafana / Prometheus
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages with at least one being OOP (e.g., Golang, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Strong competency in databases (SQL/NoSQL), data modeling, and data flow across system boundaries, specifically with MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Expertise in API design and integration architecture, including REST, event-driven and streaming patterns, and contract and versioning strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining architectural documentation (e.g., UML, C4, ADRs) for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated capability in technical leadership, mentoring, facilitating cross-team collaboration, and influencing decisions without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to move between executive-level framing and deep technical detail.
  • Active or prior U.S. security clearance, or eligibility to obtain one.

Nice to have

  • Experience with large-scale platform modernization, migration, or consolidation programs.
  • Experience in performance optimization, profiling, and tuning of distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with data platform and analytics architecture (e.g., warehousing, lakehouse, streaming ingestion).
  • Experience architecting for AI/ML workloads, including model serving, feature data, and inference cost management.
  • Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization at the portfolio level.
  • Background in high-volume, low-latency, or geospatial/time-series data systems.
  • Experience working within security and compliance regimes (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, PCI).
  • Experience architecting systems for government or defense customers, including deployment into accredited environments at defined DoD impact levels (e.g., IL2 through IL6 under the DoD Cloud Computing SRG) and the constraints each level places on design.
  • Familiarity with secure and restricted network environments common to military programs, such as segmented or air-gapped enclaves, cross-domain solutions, NIPRNet/SIPRNet connectivity, and limited or intermittent egress, and how those conditions shape integration, data movement, and deployment architecture.
  • Working knowledge of federal security and authorization frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53 and 800-171, RMF and the ATO process, STIG hardening, CMMC) and experience producing the architectural documentation those processes require.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies or frameworks (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Architect, TOGAF).
  • Contributions to open-source projects, technical communities, or conference speaking engagements.

Base Salary: $135,000 - $160,000

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
