Part Time Middle/High School Coach

Remote

Part-Time Teachers who want to change the world come to the Guidepost Academy, formerly Academy of Thought and Industry. Come join a Middle and High School Program that emphasizes history, humanism, and heroism in all things: come be part of a school that is changing the face of education.

We are looking for a Middle/High School Coach for the 2024 school year. Apply today and join our wonderful community!

Changing the world is in our DNA. Our organization was founded to do just that—a group of educators and likeminded individuals had caught a glimpse of what could be possible in education, and wanted to bring it to the world. Education today is filled with false alternatives. We disrupt them all. Our vision is a classroom where students plumb the depths of human knowledge and aspire to the height of intellectualism—and do it all at their own self-direction. Do you believe that there is critical, life-shaping knowledge that children desperately need—but also believe that they need to be in the driver’s seat when they pursue it? Then the Guidepost Academy is the place for you.

Guidepost Academy is a network of Montessori-inspired middle and high schools, including both brick-and-mortar campuses and a fully virtual program. Our Montessori approach means we believe in promoting each student’s individual agency. This includes open-ended, free work periods, where students choose what to work on and work at their own pace. We bring structure to that through a coaching-based approach that helps students plan their own goals for the day and week, using adults as guides and accountability partners.

This approach takes work to learn, so you’ll need to come in with that attitude. It also takes flexibility and a willingness to experiment. You will be joining a team of ambitious, creative, and inspiring educators and a fast-paced organization with opportunities for growth and development.

Your role:

  • 1:1 coaching to a cohort of students where you are fully invested in all aspects of their personal, academic, and social development. Mentor for success: encourage students to explore their passions, overcome challenges, and achieve their full potential.
  • Hold daily morning meeting for your cohort of students
  • Part-time fully remote opportunity
  • Navigate a variety of virtual platforms
  • Communicate effectively with students.
  • Communicate with families: send personalized updates to families after each coaching meeting, ensuring transparency and partnership in supporting students.
    • This includes biweekly reports home to families, communicating student concerns and needs to guides, progress reports twice a year, and proactive family communication.
  • Foster independence: help students set and achieve their goals while encouraging self-agency.
  • Facilitate student-led conferences two times a year
  • Write student progress reports twice a year
  • Partner with parents to ensure students are fully supported at home and at school

Example of your weekly workload:.

Workload: Coaching a group of students bi-weekly. Below is the breakdown of hours per week:

  • Coaching: 3.5 hours/week
  • Community Building: Daily morning meetings, approximately 2.5 hours/week.
  • Communication Expectations:
    • Total communication of 3.5  hours/week (30 minutes per student).
      • Follow-up coaching emails after each session.
      • Respond to parents and guides within 24 hours.
      • Respond to Teams messages from students within 24 hours.
  • On a typical week, workload will include 9 and a half hours/week.

Conferences and progress report weeks (Twice a year):

  • Student-Led Conferences: Approximately 1 hour per coachee across two weeks.
    • On a conference week, workload will be 14 hours/week total
  • Progress Reports: Allocate an additional 7 hours/week for writing coaching letters per coachee.
    • On progress report weeks, workload will be 14 hours/week total

We would love to talk to you if you:

  • Are an experienced mentor, coach, or advisor of adolescents who wants to help individual students explore their passions, overcome challenges, and surpass expectations
  • Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Are looking to co-create a vibrant, thriving, loving school community
  • Have a deep commitment to the pursuit of truth
  • Are interested in joining a growing, evolving, and ambitious educational program
  • Believe in the power of student-driven learning.
  • Are comfortable using remote communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams, or other virtual platforms).

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
